We are so proud to share that our MuralColors team has begun the restoration of “Freedom Won’t Wait” by artist Noni Olabisi (1954-2022). Olabisi was a prolific Los Angeles artist whose work and spirit continues to have a lasting impact in our city. Our conservation team led by Carlos Rogel has been on-site for three days so far, working to preserve Olabisi’s original brushstrokes from 1992. We've started with cleaning the mural, reattaching delaminated areas, and consolidating the paint layers. Stay tuned for the next steps! The restoration of “Freedom Won’t Wait” is made possible by Mural Works, a pilot program developed by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs to help offset the ongoing economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic incurred by muralists and young people in lower socio-economic communities. The program was created in response to the FY 21/22 adopted Social Justice Budget of the Office of the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles. . . . #mural #publicart #streetart #muralist #art #artconservation #muralconservation #muralpreservation #communitymural #restoration #muralrestoration

About us
MuralColors is a minority and women-owned business with a commitment to producing high-quality art and architectural materials that have a low impact on the environment. Our three founders worked professionally in public art and muralism for a collective thirty years before building MuralColors. We have witnessed historic murals begin to disappear from our cultural landscape and we have worked closely with artists and communities to restore and preserve murals. Through our work in public art, we became keenly aware of several challenges, including artists’ access to technical knowledge for paint preservation and conservation-grade materials that are affordable, durable, and safe. We believe that artists should have access to safe materials that allow their artworks and their stories to last. MuralColors has developed a turnkey solution for paint preservation that empowers artists, mural programs, and building owners with a range of technical expertise to protect all walls. Art, culture, and the environment are at the center of our work. Together we can sustain a more vibrant future.

This week, our work in mural conservation took us to the Museum of Us where we completed to-scale photo scans of two permanent murals created by artist Alicia Siu for the exhibition Maya Peoples: Heart of Sky, Heart of Earth. Our team is glad to add another layer of permanence to these important murals, helping ensure that the histories and aspirations of the Maya peoples that are represented in these artworks remain accessible for generations to come. A special thank you to Carlos Rogel Cesar Ploneda Davida Persaud, PhD Kate Clyde and Alicia Siu #murals #museums #conservation #preservation #archive

A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to apply our mural preservation coatings to a new piece by Man One! It features portraits of three local artists in Pomona, CA 🙌🏽 Painted with spray paint and acrylics and protected with our two-step MuralColors Preservation System. We applied ColorShield then OverCoat. All of our products are designed to keep murals vibrant and protected while having a low impact on the environment. #murals #publicart #streetart #muralist #art #artist #paint #mural #artconservation #muralconservation #muralpreservation #communitymural #coating #muralcoating #sealer #muralsealer #artsupplies #muralproducts #losangeles #protectart #restoration #muralrestoration #muralism #outdoormural #indoormural #pomona
