Updates

  • Maria, Morris Habitat’s newest homeowner in progress (HIP), recently visited our Randolph office to complete the official partner agreement during a meeting with Morris Habitat Director of Family Services Loretta Rivers. The partner agreement details Maria’s responsibility to help build her home. Maria was selected from a pool of 10 qualified applicants all vying for the chance to become the owner of an affordable Morris Habitat home. Once she has completed her sweat equity, Maria will be the proud homeowner of the student built home in the Kenvil section of Roxbury. CEO Liz DeCoursey is eager to meet our HIPS as they begin their homeownership journey too.

  • At Morris Habitat we believe everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Everyone - regardless of their race, nationality, religion, gender, language spoken, color or ability. Our partner families all share one common dream, to own a home! Habitat for Humanity is an international non-profit organization operating in 70 countries across six continents. Stacey and her Dad, Mytzford, first heard about Habitat for Humanity living in The Republic of Guyana, a small country in northeastern South America. Ten plus years after moving to the U.S. the two are now homeowners in Summit, NJ. Stacey already works in Summit as a teacher and her father, recently retired, can now enjoy the fruits of all of his years of labor in a home of his own. During the closing of their new 2-bedroom home, they repeated and thanked the team at Morris Habitat. “We are overjoyed, blessed and thankful. We thank you for all you do.” CEO Liz DeCoursey and Loretta Rivers, Director of Family Services were on hand to share in the joy of handing over the keys to their new home! Congratulations Stacey and Mytzford, and welcome to the Morris Habitat family! We are thrilled to play a role in your homeownership journey.

  • CARS FOR HOMES...more than a tax deduction! Once your vehicle is sold, the selling price becomes the amount of your donation. If your vehicle sells for more than $500, you may deduct the full selling price. If your vehicle sells for $500 or less, you can deduct the "fair market value" of your vehicle, up to $500. • Jenifer and David are very happy to be new homeowners and their two sons are super excited too. They closed on their new home last week. CEO Liz DeCoursey and Director of Family Services Loretta Rivers were on hand to share in the celebration! The couple work in retail and lived in Dover so they didn’t have to travel too far to put in their sweat equity at their new 3-bedroom home in Randolph. For the first time the boys will have their own rooms. At the closing their oldest son remarked, “Not for nothing, I can’t wait to have my own room where I can close the door.” His little brother looked a little sad when he said this so he added, “You’re still the best little brother.” Congratulations to the entire family! We wish you many laughs and wonderful memories!

  • Last week we closed on three new homes including a 2-bedroom home for Janelle and her young son. It was bittersweet as Janelle recalled her mother who passed away shortly after learning she was selected during a random drawing 18 months ago. It was her mother that suggested she apply for the affordable homeownership program at Morris Habitat in 2022. Today Janelle feels relief and is very happy knowing she still carries her mother’s encouraging words with her. A PIX11 reporter spoke with Janelle at the home dedication last month. https://lnkd.in/ebjy4HqB
