About us
The Planning and Development Department provides and coordinates a broad range of programs focusing on job retention and creation, employment and training services, land use planning and resource conservation as well as housing and neighborhood preservation. The department integrates planning services with economic and community development activities through partnerships with local governments and the private sector. The Planning and Development Department consists of several divisions which include Community Development, Economic Development, Planning Services, and Workforce Development. The Department is also affiliated with the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency (COMIDA) and staffs the Monroe County Industrial Development Corporation (MCIDC). Vision Monroe County is a community of choice that is economically prosperous, healthy, safe, and fun. We attract employers, skilled workers, and visitors because our community offers: Stable property taxes Safe, secure neighborhoods A wide range of recreational and cultural activities Collaboration among the County’s municipalities to create a sound governmental infrastructure Quality housing at affordable prices Access to superior health care systems Outstanding educational opportunities through a wide variety of institutions of higher learning These factors make Monroe County a community where our children and grandchildren want to stay and raise their families. Yesterday, County Executive Adam Bello delivered his State of Monroe County's Infrastructure address at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport. This hub, undergoing significant transformation, continues to attract more airlines and direct service to new destinations -- including Las Vegas, ROC's new westernmost direct flight! Our Department of Planning and Development team has been instrumental in several momentous initiatives: 🔌 Broadband Infrastructure: Ensuring seamless connectivity across the county through staffing the work of the bipartisan Broadband Task Force and now leveraging ARPA funds to invest in last-mile infrastructure and new, affordable service. 📦 Supply Chain Logistics Leadership: Developing a Multi-Modal Study to position Monroe County as a logistics powerhouse for generations to come. 🚶♂️ Countywide Active Transportation Plan: Implementing the county’s first plan to enhance safety and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, guiding new, historic investments in bike lanes, sidewalks, signage, and more. 🏡 The Monroe County Land Bank: Establishing Monroe County's first Land Bank to manage and repurpose vacant properties and increase equitable home ownership opportunities throughout our towns and villages. These efforts, alongside other significant infrastructure projects, are building a more efficient, resilient, and connected Monroe County. A trade delegation representing Taiwan's semiconductor industry is in Rochester this week as part of a U.S. visit, exploring opportunities to partner with and invest in our robust semiconductor device fabrication, assembly, packaging, and testing supply chain. Special thanks to Greater Rochester Enterprise and SelectUSA for coordinating this successful visit and for inviting Monroe County Executive Adam Bello to deliver welcome remarks.
