Architects: Does your staffing process look something like... #ERROR! #ERROR! #ERROR! #ERROR! #ERROR! Firms with at least 4 staff will spend $30k+ on salaries each month. If you use a staffing spreadsheet… it probably looks something like one of these custom Excel spreadsheets. But architects HATE these because it takes forever to update because they are disconnected from project budgets and timesheets. (Not to mention the constant "ERROR!" messages...) This is why tons of architects have deleted their spreadsheets and switched to Monograph, which allows you to: - See which phases are going over-budget and adjust quickly - See who is over capacity based on other projects and PTO - Prefill target hours on everyone’s timesheets to stop going over budget This is why Monograph customers hit these numbers on average: +44% Less budget overage +67% Faster admin tasks $25,480 in extra revenue per employee Ready to see how it can help your firm? How much revenue do architecture firms generate? Here is the formula… $171k * Number of employees = Estimated Revenue Use this rule of thumb to guess how much money an architecture firm is making. For example: - 6 staff makes $1M/yr - 12 staff makes $2M/yr - 18 staff makes $3M/yr - 24 staff makes $4M/yr But this doesn’t work every time. Here are 3 big caveats: 1) $171k is based on benchmark data from firms using Monograph, which has 20% higher revenue per full-time employee than the industry average. 2) Some firms are so efficient they make over $201k per employee (+75% percentile of firm based on Monograph benchmarks). 3) Don’t confuse this for profit. It’s based on how much revenue each employee contributes on average. Some firms need more or less staff to make $2M a year depending on how many inefficiencies are dragging them down or the opposite. The difference between $142k vs $201k revenue per full-time employee is big. One of the easiest ways to increase this number is to cut inefficiencies in how you run your projects and firm. That’s why we created Monograph. Run the numbers on your firm: Go to Monograph.com/pricing You can calculate how much revenue growth firms of your size make on average in their first year with Monograph.

This architect stopped managing projects with Excel and cut admin 50%. What happened at La Union Studio might shock you… Before: - Architects managed projects in Excel. - It was not easy to set expectations, track time, and evaluate workload. - They could not staff projects accordingly. - They did not have the financial and operational visibility into the business. - They did not have transparency for staff. After: - Architects manage projects in Monograph. - It is easy to track budgets, time spent on projects vs non-billable work. - They skeleton the project workload for staff every Monday morning. - They anticipate expenses on projects on a weekly basis. - They know how much they spend on business development. - They know what levers to pull to hit their goals and financial benchmarks. What's the hardest part of being an architect? Megan Walsh, Principal at Aria Group has a great answer: Her advice to her younger self is to slow down. Architecture schools put pressure to work extreme hours. And they lack business education about how to practice effectively. It’s hard to slow down to invest time with your team. Especially when clients shorten deadlines. But it's important to prioritize! How would you answer this question? --- We loved speak with all of you at The American Institute of Architects (AIA) '24!

What’s the hardest part of being an architect? Taylor Purser served a hot take! He's a Senior Designer at Corgan in the Pheonix Healthcare sector. Taylor’s answer? The business aspect of it. Some architects put themselves on a pedestal. They design without the client’s needs in mind. They overlook their project partners, like Interior Designers. And they ignore the business administration. How would you answer? --- We're still recovering from the epic week at The American Institute of Architects (AIA) National '24!

How to run your architecture firm in half the time: (Architects are always swamped...) Especially firm owners. But tons of architects have figured out an easier way to run a firm. For example, this is a 15-person firm called VERTEBRAL. They used to have: - No clarity into project-specific performance and profit margins. - No way to invoice for hours logged. - No time tracking at all. It wastes a ton of time to diagnose and fix issues in that environment. But then one of their colleagues recommended they use Monograph. Because of its: - ease of use - good support - product development. Here’s the results after they switched: - 50% Time saved on admin - 2x Faster billing process - 25% Less budget overage All of this is easy now: - You can look into projects and figure out if you are on track for profitability. - You can track and invoice your time and expenses easily. - And you can have an overview of how your business is doing. Show your boss Monograph(dot)com and ask what they’d do with the time savings.
