Our mission is to deliver the greatest possible impact to people through mRNA medicines.

About us

At Moderna, we believe messenger RNA, or mRNA, is the “software of life.” Every cell in the body uses mRNA to provide real-time instructions to make the proteins necessary to drive all aspects of biology, including in human health and disease. Given its essential role, we believe mRNA could be used to create a new category of medicines with significant potential to improve the lives of patients. We are pioneering a new class of medicines made of messenger RNA, or mRNA. The potential implications of using mRNA as a drug are significant and far-reaching and could meaningfully improve how medicines are discovered, developed and manufactured. In recognition of #CMVAwarenessMonth, we were joined by two incredible speakers who shed light on the importance of understanding and combating #cytomegalovirus (CMV). Dr. Suresh Boppana, who has been studying maternal and congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) infection for over 25 years, discussed the overall burden of cCMV, the significance of HCP-led conversations with women, and a breakdown of ongoing research around cCMV. Michelle, mother of a child who was born with congenital CMV, spoke about her family's journey navigating a medical landscape that is often misinformed and lacks resources to discuss the risks of CMV during pregnancy. We are grateful for Michelle and Dr. Boppana for taking the time to speak with our team! #StopCMV #NowIKnowCMV

We announced today that the European Medicines Agency’s (EMA) Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) has adopted a positive opinion recommending the granting of marketing authorization in the European Union for mRNA-1345, an mRNA respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine. RSV is a highly contagious seasonal respiratory virus and a leading cause of lower respiratory tract infections and pneumonia. It causes a particularly high burden of disease in infants and older adults. In the European Union, RSV is estimated to cause approximately 160,000 hospital admissions in adults each year, with 92% of these admissions occurring in adults aged 65 and over. 🌟 Continuing the Celebration! 🌟 In celebration of our new global headquarters, we invited all employees to assemble STEM kits for STEAM Ahead, a nonprofit uplifting underrepresented communities by transformative STEAM programs. We also partnered with Life Science Cares Boston to host students from Alexander Twilight Academy for a building tour, experiments with a few of our scientists, and a window into STEM careers at Moderna. #ModernaGivesBack

For the last feature in our #PrideMonth celebration, meet Rebecca Halbur, Associate Director of Trial Master File (TMF) Records Management in the Clinical Development & System Operations team. Born in South Florida and raised in North Carolina, Rebecca earned her undergraduate degree in biology from North Caroline State University, moved to Boston eight years ago to finish her master’s degree in sustainability - and never left! She started her career in pre-clinical research, working on a study for glycogen storage disease. She then transitioned to TMF management in the Clinical Research Organization setting and moved to the sponsor side about eight years ago, building a career around TMF. When she's not learning Japanese, she enjoys gaming, cosplay, cooking, walking, and spoiling her cats. Every spring, she looks forward to attending gaming conventions in Boston with her friends, which are some of her favorite weekends of the year. Rebecca's reflections on Pride Month: "Pride Month reminds me of the love in this community and that it’s okay to be 100% authentically yourself and to also open up a safe space for others who don’t feel safe being out or aren’t sure. It’s such a beautiful celebration of love, and I’m so lucky to be in a city like Boston that is so unapologetically loud and proud." #PrideMonth2024

The lack of a clear and consistent definition for #LongCOVID presents challenges for patients, clinicians, public health practitioners, researchers, and policy makers. Based on findings reported in existing literature, as well as inputs from experts, patients and caregivers, a committee convened by The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine proposed a consensus definition consisting of five key elements described below ⬇ Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ey7CiHwS

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common infectious cause of birth defects in the U.S. - but it's impact is uneven across different racial and ethnic groups. For instance, the rate of congenital #CMV infection is significantly higher in Black infants as compared to other populations. This disparity highlights the importance of ensuring that our clinical trials reflect the diverse communities we serve, so that people of all backgrounds have access to the promising medicines of tomorrow.
