About us
The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is the nation’s leading membership organization for military officers. We promote and protect a strong national defense and lead our nation to honor its commitments to all who serve. Our 355,000 members are as diverse as they are passionate, hailing from all branches of the armed forces and committed to looking out for one another. Our duty as an association of more than 80 years lies at the forefront of these efforts, as we protect the interests of the military community on Capitol Hill and fight to uphold the earned benefits of our servicemembers. In addition to our tireless advocacy efforts, MOAA supports members and their families through local chapters, undergraduate college scholarships, career development and career transition services, health insurance, financial and travel services, and much more. Our promise to our members is simple. In fact, it’s the same promise they made to their country: Never Stop Serving. Learn more at www.moaa.org

URGENT! WE NEED YOUR HELP! Tell your lawmakers to pass the Richard Star Act to help get combat-injured veterans the benefits they deserve. Here’s how: ❗️Go to moaa.org/staract OR ❗️Call 866-272-MOAA ❗️Ask to speak with the military legislative assistant ❗️Tell them this: 🚩The Major Richard Star Act will allow combat-injured veterans to receive their earned retirement pay and their disability pay without offset. 🚩DoD is responsible for retired pay, and the VA is responsible for disability compensation. 🚩These are two different payments for two different purposes. 🚩Reducing DoD retirement pay due to a combat injury is an injustice. 🚩Congress acknowledged this as an injustice in the 2004 NDAA and partially fixed it (but not for combat-injured veterans who did not reach 20 years of service). Thank you to Wounded Warrior Project, Reserve Organization of America (ROA), Mark Belinsky, MSA, Levi Sadr, Matthew Schwartzman, and The Military Coalition for their tireless work on this issue!

Ask your lawmakers to support the Richard Star Act today to help combat injured veterans. Go to MOAA.org/staract to send them a message. MOAA joined fellow military and veteran advocacy groups along with wounded veterans July 10th on Capitol Hill for a series of meetings with legislators—a final push to include language helping thousands of injured retirees as part of the must-pass NDAA. If passed, this bill would end an unjust offset which costs combat-injured retirees a dollar of DoD-provided retirement pay for every dollar of VA-provided disability compensation.

Check out what Maria Donnelly has to say about military spouse employment. We were lucky to talk to her and share what she had to say with our membership!
I am so appreciative of Jennifer Goodale and Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) for spotlighting Maria Donnelly and her advocacy on behalf of federally employed military spouses — and those seeking federal employment. I appreciate Maria being willing to share her story, because it is the reality so many modern military spouses face. I have been told “but you’re not most military spouses.” You’re right; I’m not. You can’t tell I am a military spouse just by looking at my resume. I don’t have the patchwork of jobs in military communities or the gaping unemployment gaps. I am the lucky one. Therefore I have the responsibility to ask others to help military spouses retain their federal employment. I owe it to all my fellow spouses who are way more educated and impressive and not yet jaded by the lack of leadership and support within the United States Department of Defense and other executive agencies. I lift up their stories because they are more than a “dependapotomus” and “TRICAREatops” stereotype. Most in government don’t realize it, but we need them more than they need us. If you’re not a member of MOAA, 1) fix that at MOAA.org, and 2) bug your MOAA member friends to let you bum their July 2024 copy of Military Officer magazine. Special thanks also goes to MOAA member Don Bacon for championing these issues and also to one of my favorite former co-workers, Mark Olson, for making an introduction. I also very much appreciate other members of Congress and those adjacent, my co-workers, and mentors who have lifted me up and been a sounding board on so many policy proposals. Even if you can't join, let your lawmakers know your thoughts here: moaa.org/staract
***PRESS CONFERENCE ALERT*** On Wednesday, July 10th, The Military Coalition will stand shoulder to shoulder with friends from the Wounded Warrior Project, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), Reserve Organization of America (ROA), along with Senator Jon Tester, Chair of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, and veterans from across the nation to hold a press conference urging Congress to pass the bipartisan Major Richard Star Act. Currently, 53,000 veterans who were forced to medically retire because of combat or combat-related injuries do not receive their full retirement benefits – their retirement pay is offset dollar-for-dollar with their disability pay. The Major Richard Star Act would right this wrong. We invite you to join us, as veterans share their stories of how this important piece of legislation will positively impact their lives. 🔊: Press Conference Urging Congress to Pass the Major Richard Star Act 📅: Wednesday, July 10th at 11:00AM ET 🌍: Reserve Organization of America HQ 1 Constitution Ave. NE Washington, DC ✉: RSVP by emailing mnilsen@woundedwarriorproject.org
