We're proud to announce that we recently hosted 21 DreamSF Fellows at MAF. This paid fellowship program, run by the City & County of San Francisco Office of Civic Engagement & Immigrant Affairs (OCEIA), supports immigrants to gain leadership and professional development experience in the Bay Area's social justice community. As a long-standing partner of the program, we're committed to fostering the next generation of leaders and change-makers. 🥳

This week, MAFistas, Alex Torres, Miriam Martinez, Sabrina Pacheco and Carolina Merino attended the #UnidosUS24 conference happening in Las Vegas, NV. The UnidosUS Annual Conference is a gathering of Latino leaders, government officials, and community advocates to address key issues facing the Latino community, such as education, health, housing, and economic empowerment. As a proud UnidosUS affiliate, MAF is part of a network of hundreds of community-based organizations serving the Latino community. #UnidosUS24

This week the Federal Reserve Board hosted the Financial Inclusion Practices and Innovations conference in Washington, D.C. During a panel discussion on "Consumers, Communities, and Financial Inclusion," MAF CEO José Quiñonez shared his insights. The past few weeks have laid bare the hardening political reality against immigrants. More alarmingly, Trump's vision of mass deportations is going largely unchallenged. Despite immigrants' significant economic contributions and their pivotal role in helping the U.S. recover from the pandemic, dangerous rhetoric continues to paint a frightful future for immigrant communities. This chilling reality underscores the urgency of MAF's work. A new analysis of the funding models of 297 nonprofits published in the Stanford Social Innovation Center highlighted MAF’s growing philanthropic support over the last 16 years. MAF CEO José Quiñonez told SSIR, “That is always top of mind, the question of how you sustain it, build it, grow it,” referring to MAF’s continued growth. Looking at the nonprofits whose main source of funding comes from philanthropic gifts, a new trend is emerging. Donors are making larger and longer-term investments. Thanks to the support of the Wells Fargo Foundation, these organizations will support individuals from diverse backgrounds to achieve their financial dreams through MAF’s proven Lending Circles model. MAF is proud to be among the non-profits that are part of @MetLife Foundation’s Accelerating Commitment to Equity Innovation Fund (ACE Innovation Fund). Each member of the cohort is taking a different approach to tackling the growing income and wealth divide in the U.S. MAF combats income inequality by fostering financial inclusion and stability through lending circles, direct assistance, advocacy, and community-based programs.
