The US Census Bureau has confirmed that individuals who volunteer to serve are also more likely to vote, attend community meetings, and informally help their neighbors. In other words, you are hard-pressed to find a better long-term investment in democracy than encouraging young people to participate in programs like the ones listed below. Teach For America allowed me, as a first generation college graduate, to earn a full teacher’s salary and benefits while building my leadership skills and having a positive impact on the lives of my students. I had intended to teach for only 2 years, but that experience sparked a life-long commitment to both education and national service - as a high school administrator, a White House Fellow, and an officer in the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps . Let’s fully fund the next generation of community leaders and public servants - our country needs it now more than ever. • Meet Sarah Rodriguez, a mentor for rising seniors, the Class of 2025. Our mentors are a critical part of the organization, working with their mentees for all three years of the program. Beginning their sophomore year of high school, each student is matched with two mentors who work with them to discover, plan, and ready themselves for college. In addition to being a mentor Sarah is on the Volunteer Interview Committee, helping us select the next cohort of mentors, instructors, and volunteer leaders. Sarah is an exceptional volunteer helping guide her mentees and shaping the future of MMBay! Swipe right to learn more about Sarah's experience with MMBay.
