Congratulations to Drs. Donald Likosky, Daphne Watkins and Russell Funk for their NIH R01 grant that will use mixed methods research to examine the role and associated impact of systemic racism and discrimination within heart failure. The partnership between Michigan Medicine, University of Michigan School of Social Work and University of Minnesota seeks to develop an understanding of barriers to and facilitators of equitable care and outcomes in heart failure care. They intend to develop a toolkit of best practices to address structural racism and discrimination in this setting. More on the award: https://michmed.org/Qk45R

For more than a decade, people with bipolar disorder have volunteered to help our researchers learn more about this complex #mentalhealth condition. That dedication, fueled by the generosity of donors to the Heinz Prechter Bipolar Research Program, just yielded some important findings about how alcohol and bipolar interact: https://michmed.org/Andxk Want to learn more about the Prechter Program and the Detroit automotive pioneer whose tragic death led to its founding? Trauma. Transplants. Difficult births. Sickle cell crises. Cancer. These urgent medical needs don't take a summer vacation - but the supply of blood that we need to treat all of them often dips in the summer. If you're able, schedule a time to donate blood near you soon. If you'll be on or near the U-M campus in the next week, we have lots of spots at drives happening here! Find a place and time to give near you: https://lnkd.in/djVuV_X If you're not sure if you can donate, or you've never done it before, there's lots of great information on this site too. Donation eligibility requirements have changed in recent years, so if you were turned away before, please try again! Thank you.
