  • On Day 6 of our 2024 Americas Linkage Mission to Colombia, we experienced innovation and industry excellence firsthand. Our delegation visited Finotex S.A., a global leader in label making with clients like Walmart , Calvin Klein , and Adidas. President Fabian Duquesne guided us through their impressive operations and beautiful showroom, showcasing their craftsmanship and dedication. Another highlight was our visit to Tecnoglass Inc the largest employer in Barranquilla and the second-largest glass maker in South America. Tecnoglass has provided windows for 40% of the buildings in downtown Miami over the last five years. Alejandro Escolar welcomed our delegation and gave us a personal hardhat tour of their cutting-edge factory. Tecnoglass has revolutionized glass production with a streamlined, automated assembly line, making the process highly efficient and innovative. Watching the aluminum rod get extruded to form different frames was a fascinating experience, akin to pushing playdough through a mold. Barranquilla has been a fantastic host, highlighting its vibrant business landscape and warm hospitality. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our mission to build connections across the Americas. #AmericasLinkageMission #Innovation #GlobalConnections #Finotex #Tecnoglass #Colombia2024 #BusinessLeadership

  • There’s so much going on in this port city of 1.5M people that is also going through major change as #nearshoring continues to grow. #AmericasLinkageMission24 first day in #Barranquilla continued with our group splitting in two. Group A visited Clinica Sala Azul. Above an upscale eyeglasses store at a major mall, this ophthalmological clinic sees hundreds of patients each day, 7 days a week. It is one of 12 such ophthalmological clinics throughout Colombia started by an entrepreneurial doctor, Luis Escaf Jaraba. One of their 4 major pillars is research and development which has led the clinic to innovate ophthalmological training using high tech training techniques. Training face and eyes are connected to an AI which corrects errors in real time and grades each student’s proficiency. Not until proper proficiency is achieved can an intern pass and move on to other techniques. The clinic also operates one of the largest tissue banks used for ophthalmological procedures, especially corneas. #AmericasLinkage24 #Barranquilla #Ophthalmology #Innovation #HealthcareRevolution 🇨🇴👁️✨

  • Flying from #Medellin to #Barranquilla, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce spent a few hours with Sebastián Arteta, head of sales at La Cayena Free Trade Zone, the #1 near-shoring FTZ in Colombia. At the FTZ, we spoke with @David Gasull, director of STEPUP Scaffold a US aluminum scaffolding company with a presence in the US and China, which decided to establish a manufacturing facility in Colombia after extensive research. He shared great insights, emphasizing that near-shoring isn't just about geographical nearness. You must consider costs like skilled labor availability around shipping, warehousing, and manufacturing locations. Sometimes, workforce availability and intranational logistics can lead to unexpected high costs that may negate any savings. #AmericasLinkage24 #NearShoring #Colombia #Manufacturing #GlobalTrade

On Day 3 of our Americas Linkage Mission to Colombia, we had the pleasure of meeting with Proantioquia! This is a volunteer-led organization spearheaded by some of #Medellin’s top corporate, educational, and NGO professionals. The organization helps to increase educational, cultural, business, economic, and governmental capacities throughout the region. Its broad base of support across a multitude of sectors has helped focus a coordinated plan of action for the development of the community over time. This buy in and willingness to work together has been one of the key ingredients in the remaking of Medellin from #drugcapital to #techcapital in the mere span of 15-20 years.
