• It has been 1 year since 2 earthquakes cracked the earth in Turkey and Syria, claiming more than 50,000 lives and displacing tens of thousands of people. In this special episode of our podcast ‘The Understory’, we provide audio messages and stories of survival from our #MeWeSyria volunteers who lived in the epicenter zone and who lost their homes and friends and family. In the middle of the natural disaster, our Syrian heroes used our emergency aid micro grants to lead community spaces for healing and creative expression in the aftermath of the earthquake. They reached over 390 earthquake survivors with our storytelling and communication tools for health and community resilience. As the tectonic plates move and reshape our earth, our stories are our compass. Please listen and share. Love and gratitude to our Syrian heroes in #MeWeSyria #MeWeIntl: Sara, Shahed, Ola, Ayesha, Asmaa, Abood, Hiba, Huda, Solaiman, Omar, and Hadi. • Happy birthday #muhammadali . The man whom our organization is named after and inspired by. The fighter, the dreamer , the human rights activist, the storyteller who first yelled the words ‘Me,We!’. The spiritual journeyman who bravely unleashed his multitudes, and courageously re-claimed the story and narrative of his inner self, to then re-author culture and re-story the world with more love, light, faith, and courage. He risked his medals, his friendships , his freedom in order to expand equal freedom and rights to all people. Happy birthday champ. • Sharing some more key concepts in our community #storytelling work #MeWe International Inc. . “The stories you tell yourself (and don’t tell) about yourself shape how you treat the self, one another, and the planet. Communication is the giving and receiving of energy. And our stories are living things authoring our health and human rights. Your storytelling shapes the health of self, people, and planet.”—-#MeWeIntl, M.MohiUdDin #art #health #storytelling #communication

  • We are living in a time of weaponized stories and communication. Storytelling and communication are being co-opted to DE-story communities by: erasing the narratives of the underrepresented ; silencing and oppressing perspectives; and dividing and gaslighting the stories and lived experiences of the understories around us and within our own selves. The fate of our humanity, our health and human rights rests in humankind’s capacity to reclaim communication and #storytelling as pillars of health, equity, and connectedness. In @meweinternational global storytelling tools and trainings, we unleash such community tools and experiences for RE-Storying the DE-storied. One such tool we offer you here, ‘#MeWeIntl RE-Storying Compass’. Use this tool to guide your daily creative practices for RE-Storying your inner world, so that you and your community can resist and transcend the DE-storying that may be inundating you. Our values and compass include authoring: Curiosity above fear; passion above perfection, self compassion over self judgment; and perspectives above conclusions. Here we use nature as a well of demonstrations for RE-storying. The hummingbird is a symbol across many cultures, and in indigenous storytelling. It is a symbol of resurrection, mystical powers, resilience. It can fly in any direction, and despite its size, carries a powerful heart that propels its long and extraordinary journeys across continents. Just like stories. Just like language. Just like us humans. Copyright @meweinternational @allplacesfromhere 2024. Ceasefire NOW. #storytelling #health #mentalhealth #art #communication

  • Has been a year of multitudes: loss, anger, grief, but also resilience, awakening, & growth. In my latest #yearinreview #MeWe International Inc. article #2023, we reflect on the challenges & triumphs in our global mission to RE-Story the DE-storied: https://lnkd.in/eXfa6HXf #storytelling #health #arts #peacebuilding #communication “The perpetual dispossession and the dehumanization of black communities, indigenous communities, and people of color run parallel to a de-Storying of Mother Nature. Inequality lives in the soil of language, and narratives of dehumanization bear toxic fruit. As dire and, at times, discouraging as all this sounds, we can empower our communities to RE-Story what has been DE-storied within the self so that we may restore what is being destroyed around us. The power and voice of communication must and can be reclaimed for healing and connectedness.”—Mohsin , Founder #MeWeIntl
