That's why Metropolitan Ministries is dedicated to supporting these young ones through our PromiseLand Childcare Center and urgently call for volunteers and donations as we see an increasing number of children experiencing homelessness. Affording to live in our community is becoming increasingly difficult, with a shortage of affordable housing and rising rents pushing people out. High food costs add to the struggle, leaving many on low and fixed incomes in precarious situations. Emergencies often mean a financial setback that's hard to recover from. We've seen a 15% increase in seniors seeking help recently. One woman we met, currently on a waiting list for affordable housing, described herself as 'homeless with a roof' – living in a place without a kitchen or A/C, relying on our meal program to eat. Together, we must address these urgent needs. Metro Ministries urgently calls on those who can support our Emergency Family Crisis Response Campaign, now through June 30th. Financial donations will provide rent assistance, food, motel vouchers, and help with water and electricity bills. The community has an opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of struggling families and prevent evictions and homelessness through this effort. Hope continues to do more in Pasco! These milestones mark significant steps in addressing the needs of the West Pasco community, doubling our capacity to provide life-changing programs and family crisis resources and will soon offer on a new state-of-the-art early childhood education center. The most touching moment of the event came from Wendy, who shared her testimony of fleeing a horrible domestic situation and finding a haven at Metropolitan Ministries in Pasco for herself and her son. Over the past 11 months, Wendy has taken full advantage of what Metro offers, including CREATE educational services and counseling for her son, as well as adult education and vocational training for herself. Now a certified phlebotomist and medical assistant, she is working full time and preparing to move into her own home. “This is an example of how we’re taking action to address the crises many families are facing,” said Metropolitan Ministries President and CEO, Tim Marks. “We’re working together with Pasco County to help at-risk and homeless families, and children who are innocent victims of circumstances. As the Tampa Bay community grapples with soaring rent costs, a scarcity of affordable housing, and rising utility and food expenses, families are forced to make heart-wrenching choices between basic necessities like shelter, food, medicine, and utilities. Although we have served many, the situation has continued to intensify since the holiday season, with many facing the harsh reality of eviction, homelessness, and living in their cars. Our resources are stretched thin as donations dwindle due to inflation, making it increasingly difficult to meet the growing demand. The summer months bring additional strain, with fewer meal programs available and a typical slowdown in donations. Your support is crucial now more than ever.
