Founded in 1964 as a non-profit Community Action Agency, MDC is committed to providing innovative programs that help remove people from a life of poverty and prepare them for self-sufficient living. For most of our 60-year history, MDC has responded to community needs by providing services that address the needs of low-income families.

It takes dedication and effort to address homelessness in our community. Pierce County is proud to announce over $17 million has been awarded to fund programs that help our neighbors experiencing homelessness. These services include street outreach, emergency shelter, transitional housing, rapid re-housing, and permanent supportive housing. MDC currently has openings at our 32-bed units designed to help individuals through the withdrawal management process (detox). Admissions and Referrals: Our facility is located at 721 Fawcett Ave. We are open 24/7 for admissions, ensuring that help is always available. We work on transition clients to local inpatient SUD treatment centers post-detox, supporting sustained recovery with Medication Assisted Treatments (MAT) and Intensive Outpatient Services (IOP). Important Admission Criteria: Individuals detoxing from benzodiazepines are currently not eligible for our services. We cannot accept pregnant individuals or those who test positive for THC only. We cater to individuals with an alcohol level of up to .27 BAL; higher levels require an ER visit for medical clearance.
