If you could draft a quarterback that you knew had mental metrics nearly identical to Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert, or Joe Burrow, how would that impact your decision making? Mental Metrix works with teams to build the highest performing teams by providing the most objective, quantifiable mental performance data on athletes available. With the NFL Combine starting next week, we did some preliminary research on previous draft classes to compare to this year’s prospects. The process is pretty straightforward, but the impact is huge. We analyzed 3 players across 10 position groups using our language analysis tools. To be sure we have a holistic understanding of each individual, we captured audio across several contexts. With that data we compiled three comparison charts (swipe to see all three):  - Veterans compared to Veterans - Prospects compared to Prospects - Veteran compared to Prospect One Veteran <> Prospect combo looks *nearly identical* on personality markers. We want to know - how does knowing this ahead of time impact your draft strategy? With Mental Metrix you can know what to expect from an athlete and how to develop that player to your scheme before you even sign them. Want to know more? At Mental Metrix, we bring objectivity to the mental metrics that support winning a championship. We want to understand who has the mentality to win on the day when it matters most. For the Super Bowl, Our team explored the dynamics between the head coach and quarterback of Kansas City and San Francisco respectively. We examined: Leadership Styles, Stress & Anxiety, and Thinking Styles, studying the interplay of head coach and quarterback to provide additional insight on how these two key personnel support each other and how they may impact winning a Championship. To read the full analysis, check out our blog. https://lnkd.in/eNe8qyJD Now that the game has been played, below are a few data points to reconsider as you look back at the game. Leadership: The data noted that both head coaches were more directive (more goal oriented and results driven) in their leadership styles. The quarterbacks, while similar, were categorized in different quadrants; Patrick Mahomes more direct and results driven, whereas Brock Purdy more inspirational and communal with his teammates. Stress and Anxiety: The data highlighted how Coach Reid had the lowest combination of these two scores, meaning that he was more primed for the excitement, intensity, and pressure that comes with playing in a Super Bowl. Mahomes experienced less stress than Purdy, but Purdy experienced less anxiety. Thinking Styles: The Chiefs Coach/QB combo counterbalanced each other in having both a “here and now” approach while also being analytical or planned, and required less mental load to do so. The 49er Coach/QB combo appeared more analytical and strategic, but it required more mental faculties to do so. In comparing these two duos, we gave the Chiefs’ duo the mental edge. While a multitude of other factors impacted the outcome of a highly competitive and exciting game, we did see the Chiefs elevate their play and execute under pressure in critical situations. Despite being down 10 points early in the game, they steadied as a team and worked their way back. Ultimately, Reid and Mahomes spearheaded the Chiefs’ drive down the field in the final moments of regulation to tie the game in the second half, and then executed in the most pressure-packed moments to score a game-ending touchdown in overtime. The game was intense and showed two teams highly prepared to compete on the national stage. The back-and-forth lead changes, passionate side-line conversations, and brilliant play-calling on both sides made the game nail-biting to watch. Surprising turnovers and penalties on the Chiefs side could have gotten a team rattled. Ultimately, though, we saw the Chiefs remain composed in critical moments to take the Lombardi Trophy home back-to-back years. Do they have what it takes to go for three?

As we wrap up the work week, the players and personnel for Chiefs and 49ers are preparing for one of the biggest days of their careers. As such, today's insight on this weekend's game focuses on Stress & Anxiety. We analyze language to produce our reports. This is important because the team hears the words of their leaders every day and this influences the day to day grind. This measure gives us insight into how people are likely perceived. Everyone experiences stress and anxiety, and there is such a thing as "good stress" that drives people to take action and pursue goals. Stress during a high-stakes, high-pressure competition can have a positive impact on performance. Not enough stress and anxiety may impact an individual’s ability to stay motivated or mission-focused. Yet, too much stress and anxiety can cause individuals to overthink, experience doubt or negativity, and struggle to bounce-back from adversity. Coach Reid demonstrates lower levels of both stress and anxiety than Coach Shanahan. Mahomes experiences less stress than Purdy, but Purdy experiences less anxiety. Considering the delicate balance of both coaches and players and the sweet spot for stress and anxiety, Do you see an advantage for either duo? Let us know in the comments! Want to learn more? As Promised - we’ve got Leadership Styles Analysis to unpack today for Sunday's game. We analyze language to produce our reports. This is important because the team hears the words of their leaders every day and this influences the day to day grind. This measure gives us insight into how people are likely perceived. The graphic maps leadership style. Both head coaches show similarities in their leadership style. They are both goal-oriented and directive. There are differences among the quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes is more direct and goal oriented. Brock Purdy, however, is more inspirational and communal. Given this is the Super Bowl, what on-field  leadership style do you think will have the most impact on game day performance? Let us know in the comments! Want to learn more? The Chiefs and 49ers face off on Sunday. No question, these teams have demonstrated they have the talent. Our question is “Who has the mental edge to become this season’s NFL Champions?” For the College Football Playoff Championship our analysis used the post-game interviews from the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl to compare the two winning teams (That post is linked here for quick reference). For the Super Bowl we have expanded our analysis to include 5 press conference language samples from the 2023 season and playoffs, combining both midweek and post game interviews . We’re using the same method of analysis, studying the interplay of head coach and quarterback to provide additional insight on how these two key personnel support each other and how they may impact winning a Championship. In anticipation for the game, we’ll be dropping additional data points to consider for deciding which team has the competitive advantage. 🔜 Stay tuned for analytics on Leadership Styles, Stress and Anxiety, and Thinking Styles.

The NCAA National Championship game is around the corner. There is no single factor that will determine the outcome of the game, but there are data points that give us insight into the mindset of each as they gear up for the final game of the season. Our analysis used the post-game interviews from the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl to compare the two winning teams. We analyzed the interplay of head coach and quarterback to provide additional insight on how these two key personnel support each other. Our team explored the dynamics between the head coach and quarterback of Michigan and Washington respectively. We examined: Leadership Styles, Performing Under Pressure, and Thinking Styles. Leadership Styles: The circular graphic shows the type of leadership each displays. Where Coach Harbaugh is highly communicative and inspirational, Coach DaBoer is more direct and authoritative. What leadership style do you think has the most positive impact on team performance? Stress and Anxiety: Everyone experiences stress and anxiety, and there is such thing as "good stress". This measure specifically focuses on someone's propensity to experience stress and anxiety. Where our two coaches are experiencing the same levels of stress propensity and similar levels of propensity for anxiety, McCarthy demonstrates significantly less propensity for both stress and anxiety. What role do you think stress may play in performance? Thinking Styles: Analytical Thinking and Cognition are two measures of how people process information. High Analytical Thinking shows someone strong in complex problem-solving. Cognition measures the amount of "mental load" on the individual. Coach Harbaugh is low in Analytical Thinking and experiences less mental load. But he's balanced out by a QB who has higher analytical thinking measures. By contrast, Coach DaBoer has higher analytical thinking measures and is balanced by a QB who demonstrates lower analytical thinking. The question is, do you want your Coach to be more analytical or your QB? Who do you think has the winning edge? Let us know below! #humanperformance #teamdynamics #highperformancehabits #nil #leadershipdevelopment
