We are excited about being in a great location and having the ability to provide services to more Tennesseans! Newly appointed CEO Michelle Schafer said her top priority is to listen. To understand. She’s not there to make radical changes during her first year at the helm of the Mental Health Cooperative. In fact, she doesn’t want anyone to get caught up in her title. “First things first … I’m making sure that I really get to know everyone, folks in the community, get to know all our team members really well, and they get to know me,” Schafer told the Business Journal. Happy Juneteenth! Mental Health Cooperative is proud to celebrate this historical day! Juneteenth has become the most well-known celebration for the ending of slavery in the United States. The history of this important celebration is complex and often misunderstood. Dating back to 1865, the holiday commemorates the day when 250,000 enslaved men and women in the state of Texas, which became the last bastion for slavery during the final days of the Civil War, were declared free by the U.S. Army. As soon as the following year, local festivities were organized in African American communities to celebrate and remember the significance of that day, June 19. The celebrations continued year after year. Our offices are closed today to celebrate Juneteenth but will reopen during normal business hours on Thursday, June 20. #Juneteenth

Life can be stressful at times. We all know that. What’s important is to take time for self-care. You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of colleagues or loved ones. We encourage you to practice self-care for at least one hour today! What will YOU do during that time that will have you feeling peaceful afterwards?
