#DYK -When #MedEx opened its doors in 1998, Founder & CEO Lauren Rubinson had little more than a card table, four chairs, and a landline phone. Lauren and her first employee, a revered #dispatcher named George Massaro, eagerly anticipated the dispatch phone to ring. "Do you think it will ever ring?" George asked. "Yes, it will ring - Be patient" Lauren replied. When the phone finally rang, Lauren exclaimed, "We jumped up for joy, hugged each other, and George dispatched our very first call!" In 2024, our Communications Center manages several hundred calls daily thanks to advanced technology such as Computer Aided Dispatching, GPS tracking, and weather monitoring systems. During this National #Telecommunicators Week, Lauren would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of our dispatchers and call takers. She's grateful the phones at MedEx Dispatch haven’t stopped ringing for 26 years!

Last week the Lurie Children’s Transport Team celebrated its two new larger, customized and high-tech ambulances built by longtime partner @medexamb Medex Ambulance Service. These vehicles not only ensure seating for four providers at all times (or a family member) but allow Lurie Children’s to pre-stock specialized equipment and get out the door faster and safer. They are the largest and most complex ambulances in Lurie Children’s fleet and feature: - Newly designed restraint systems that allow the Transport Team to move and even stand from the seat without coming out of their belts. - A negative pressure environment in the patient compartment so the vehicle’s hi-tech HVAC and filtration system can be effective in the fight against airborne diseases. - Refrigeration, enabling the Transport Team to appropriately manage blood products and vaccines. - Extra power generators to manage the needs of its high-tech equipment. - Child-friendly creative design internally and externally, and the ability to show age-appropriate videos and movies. - Uniquely recognizable vehicles with Lurie Children’s distinct branding and colors “Pediatric critical care teams need to be more mobile and faster than ever before. The new larger ambulances will be more ‘mission-ready’ because they can carry more supplies in the vehicle,” said Robert Newmyer, MD, Critical Care Physician and Medical Director of the Transport Team. “Pediatric emergency and critical care are more regionalized than ever before, as the number of pediatric hospital beds throughout Illinois and the region has decreased over the past decade. We care for kids when other systems cannot. And we have to start the right care at the right time before they even get to Lurie Children’s. These ambulances help us do that.”

Exciting news! MedEx has taken delivery of 2 state-of-the-art ambulances. We don’t always showcase our new vehicles, but these trucks are truly special. They are gearing up to become specialized transport ambulances for Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Specifically designed to handle the unique needs of critically ill or injured patients, they're equipped with all the necessary gear for a safe journey. Lurie Children's Hospital Transport Team is staffed with doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and specially trained MedEx EMTs and we take immense pride in our partnership with them! Built on the robust Ford Motor Company E-450 Super Duty chassis, these highly specialized ambulances were expertly crafted by the talented team at Medix Specialty Vehicles, Inc. in Indiana . #ambulance #paramedic #ems #emergency #emt #nurse #ambulanza #medical #ambulans #ambulancia #emergencyservices #emtlife #hospital #paramediclife #emergencymedicine #childrenshospital #transportnurse #nicu #peds #pediatricnurse #pediatrics #nurselife #pediatrician #rn #nurses #nursepractitioner #pediatric #luriechildrens #hospital #chicago #chitown #chicagogram #windycity #chicagoland

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Kelley Holdren. Kelley dedicated an incredible 20 years of her life to the UCAN - University of Chicago Aeromedical Network, serving as the Chief Flight Nurse & Administrative Director for the past 11 years. Kelley was not just a respected leader in the aeromedical transport industry; she was an extraordinary individual who gave selflessly to those in need. As we mourn the loss of Kelley, let us remember and celebrate the significant contributions she made to the field of aeromedical transport and emergency medicine. May her memory motivate us to pursue excellence in our profession and compassion for those we encounter. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences extend to Kelley’s family and friends, and to her colleagues at the University of Chicago. We will miss you, Kelley. Lauren Rubinson – MedEx CEO

The American Ambulance Association’s Stars of Life program shines a light on EMS professionals who go the extra mile for their communities and the EMS field. Meet one of this year's stars, MedEx Operations Supervisor Danny Neczek! With over 2 decades of EMS experience, he's not just a leader, but also an incredible survivor. On March 6, 2023, while on duty at our Chicago Station, Danny went into cardiac arrest. Thankfully, his MedEx family, including EMTs and paramedics, were there to save the day. Their quick response and dedication resuscitated Danny, and he was rushed to the University of Illinois Hospital. Miraculously, he was discharged 10 days later! We want to recognize those who played a crucial role in Danny's recovery, and we're thrilled to have him back on the job, stronger than ever! 💪❤️ #EMS #HeroesAmongUs #BackToWork #MedExStrong • Willie Birden, CCEMT-P • Gordon Davis, EMT-P • Andrew Durham, EMT-P • Brian Glad, EMT-B • Langston White, EMT-B • Nashita Patel, EMT-B • Kayla Howard, EMT-B • Katja Mestrom, EMT-B • Jasper Johnson, EMT-B • Laura Wagner, Operations Supervisor • Kevin Hahn, Operations Manager • Joe Elkin, Risk Manager

Congratulations to EMT Amna S. on her incredible journey with MedEx! Over the past few years, we’ve seen her grow from a shy but capable EMT to an outstanding clinical professional. As she embarks on the next chapter of her career, being accepted into a Physician Assistant program in St. Louis, we want to extend our warmest wishes and support. It's always bittersweet to say farewell to a valued team member, but we know that Amna's future is bright and filled with promise. We are grateful for the contributions she has made to MedEx and the lives she has touched during her time here. Amna, you have a bright future ahead, and we are confident that you will continue to excel and make a positive impact in the medical field. You’re going to do great things!
