The Meat Institute supports the businesses processing meat and their supplier partners that sustainably nourish families
About us
The Meat Institute is a national trade association that represents companies that process 95 percent of red meat and 70 percent of turkey in the US and their suppliers throughout America. Headquartered in metropolitan Washington, DC, the Meat Institute keeps its fingers on the pulse of legislation, regulation and media activity that impacts the meat and poultry industry and provides rapid updates and analyses to its members to help them stay informed. In addition, the Meat Institute conducts scientific research through its Foundation designed to help meat and poultry companies improve their plants and their products. The Institute's many meetings and educational seminars also provide excellent networking and information-sharing opportunities for members of the industry. The Meat Institute is governed by elected leaders and staffed by 25 professionals. The Meat Institute's elected leaders include three officers plus the President and CEO, as well as a 107-person Board of Directors and a 40-person Executive Board. Representatives on both of these bodies include leaders in both the supplier and packer/processor segments of the industry. The Meat Institute has also created operating groups, called policy committees and advisory committees, within its membership to allow member companies to recommend Meat Institute policies in their primary areas of interest. Policy committees focus on broad functional and operational areas and develop policy recommendations for specific issues within these areas. Advisory committees provide specialized advice to policy committees.

Did you know July is National Hot Dog Month? Our Chief Strategy Office and President of the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council, Eric Mittenthal talks about the current landscape of the hot dog industry with Chmura Economics & Analytics. Check out their latest blog post!
🎆 As we gear up to celebrate Independence Day by firing up the grill, our latest blog explores the economic landscape of the current hot dog industry. Thanks again to Eric Mittenthal of the Meat Institute for his keen insights! Key points include: ☀️ Despite rising costs, particularly in cookout essentials (like hot dogs) Americans are expected to spend significantly more during peak summer season. 👨🍳 The meat manufacturing industry has experienced negative employment growth, with a shift towards automation potentially impacting job ads despite strong consumer demand. 🌭 Hot dogs remain a cultural staple during summer celebrations, reflecting local traditions and preferences despite broader economic shifts. Craving more? Check out the blog by Henry Switz, and let us know in the comments whether you'll be throwing some dogs on the grill for the Fourth of July! https://bit.ly/3xGNkrJ.

You ready for the 5th Fun Fact from the Power of Meat? Anne-Marie Roerink breaks down the festive spending habits on meat and poultry during special moments. Throughout the year, sales volumes spike significantly during key holidays—Valentine's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and year-end festivities are prime times for indulgence. The research shows that during Thanksgiving alone, 52% of households served more than one type of protein, with Gen Z mixing traditional with trendy by including options like hot dogs and hamburgers for their celebrations. This trend underscores the broader opportunity: every special moment, from birthdays to anniversaries or even just celebrating the end of a long week, can be a chance for the meat industry to create memorable experiences. The takeaway: Find ways to enhance these merry-making moments for consumers! #ThePowerOfMeat2024 #ConsumerTrends FMI- The Food Industry Association

Our Chief Strategy Officer, Eric Mittenthal, shares his recent experiences at Protein PACT engagements, where animal-source foods are making their way back to conference and event menus, and how to have a "yes and..." conversation when it comes to talking about positive food choices.
I'm a big believer in finding common ground even with those you might not typically agree with. It's usually there and can lead to more "yes, and" solutions
Optimism and finding “yes, and…” solutions
