MDMA's President & CEO Mark Leahey applauded the U.S. House Ways & Means Committee's #bipartisan vote to approve #HR1691, the "Ensuring Patient Access to Critical Breakthrough Products Act" today. We thank Chairman Smith, Representatives Wenstrup and DelBene, and every Member of the Committee who voted for the bill for their leadership advancing this common-sense legislation. MDMA remains committed to working with #Congress to pass this bill into law this year. We also urge Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to finalize the proposed #TCET program. Together, enactment of #HR1691 and implementation of #TCET will make a meaningful difference in the lives of #Medicarebeneficiaries, who often wait years for #patientaccess to the most advanced, safe and effective medical treatments available to other patients. #Healthpolicy #Patientaccess #Medtech

MDMA is proud to support and endorse the bipartisan reintroduction of the “Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act” in the United States Senate and House of Representatives. Abusive #priorauthorization practices by health plans are harming #patients by delaying and denying access to medically necessary procedures. We look forward to working with Congress to ensure passage of this legislation, which will enable greater #patientacess to #medtech #innovations. #PriorAuth #FixPriorAuth #MedTech #Patientaccess

In the over 20 years that I've had the privilege of meeting amazing individuals who advocate on behalf of patients, perhaps no one was more memorable than Bill Walton. His openness in sharing the challenges he faced with his health and how he overcame them with the help of medical technology innovations was inspiring and unforgettable. During the time we spent together with patients, innovators and policy makers, it was clear that Bill brought kindness and positivity to wherever he went, and to whoever he was with. My condolences to all of his family, friends, and those that he impacted throughout his life.

MDMA recently responded to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (#CMS) request for comment on information collection related to its planned #ASC #priorauthorization demonstration. MDMA wholeheartedly supports #CMS efforts to investigate fraud and steward precious healthcare resources; however, we have serious concerns over the agency’s expanding #priorauthorization efforts, which impose burdensome requirements on #providers and deny #beneficiaries timely access to #innovative medical technologies. Our recent letter also reiterated our strong concerns over the creation and expansion of the #priorauthorization for certain hospital outpatient (#OPD) services program, which extends to medically necessary, non-cosmetic services. MDMA’s concerns are shared by Members of #Congress and over 40 healthcare stakeholder organizations. Congress and #CMS we must ensure all #beneficiaries maintain appropriate and timely access to care in all healthcare delivery settings. We look forward to working with #CMS on our shared commitment to improving access, for all #beneficiaries, to the best and most innovative technologies the #medtech industry has to offer. #CMS #Priorauthorization #MedTech #Patientaccess

At the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA) annual meeting, FI COO Denise Zarins joined Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign director Josh Makower, MD for a discussion on the Future of Medtech. The panelists explored some of the greatest clinical needs today, from cardiovascular disease and mental health to access to care in underserved populations, and how telemedicine, home healthcare, and AI can help. They also discussed the funding needed to advance these ideas and the important role of government grants that protect innovator IP. A question about lessons from COVID prompted inspiration, as both speakers reflected on how much this country can accomplish when there is a true call to action plus aligned incentives, and voiced their desire to see this powerful engine applied to other, high-need areas of healthcare. #medtech #innovation #policy

Yesterday, our CEO Leslie Trigg opened the 2024 Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA) Annual Meeting in Washington, DC with a welcome address that underscored MDMA’s pivotal role in shaping the future of medical innovation. As the Chair of MDMA’s Board, Leslie spoke to the organization's relentless advocacy and conviction. “MDMA is an organization of action not words,” she said. “It moves with clarity, speed and purpose.” During the conference, Leslie and MDMA honored Congresswoman Lori Trahan with this year's MDMA Champion of Innovation Award, recognizing Congresswoman Trahan’s leadership and commitment to improving patient care and bolstering our nation’s role in building up the field of medical technology. As we reflect on the enriching conversations and innovative ideas shared at the conference, we are reminded of our tremendous responsibility in advancing innovation and transforming care. As Leslie mentioned in her address, “We have the privilege of waking up every morning and knowing that what we do really and truly matters. We have the privilege of being needed by the future. And so, to the future we go.” #BetterBeginsNow #MedTech #HealthcareInnovation #Leadership #MedicalDevices
