#McElhanney was proud to sponsor the (WCE) Women in Consulting Engineering Vancouver lawn bowling and ice cream social last week. We had a blast catching up over an evening of lawn bowling in Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Park. It was an incredible opportunity to connect with inspiring women and allies in the industry while enjoying the summer weather. We can’t wait for the next event! A big thank you to WCE for creating such a welcoming space for us to build meaningful relationships. At #McElhanney, improving the communities where we live, work, and play is at the core of what we do, and as experts in bridge and culvert engineering, we were proud to provide emergency design services for our client Wheatland County Our team quickly responded to an emergency bridge-sized culvert replacement within 24 hours after a sinkhole caused by an existing culvert failure was discovered on a gravel Township road. Despite unique challenges in designing the replacement structure, our multi-disciplinary team implemented innovative control solutions, such as: - Designing freeboard to account for the watercourse’s flow being impacted by a Western Irrigation District (WID) canal - Implementing substrate holders and heavy rock riprap to create a nature substrate throughout the new crossing, allowing for ideal fish passage conditions along the steep channel. - Riverbank armouring to protect the upstream and downstream aprons from scour, ensuring the durability of the new structure and previously eroding riverbanks. We’re proud to share that the construction wrapped up in less than one year after the sinkhole was discovered, marking an impressive timeline achievement. 🙌 Thank you to everyone involved in making this project a success! We’re proud to help build safer and more resilient communities across Western Canada. #BridgeCulvertReplacement #EmergencyDesign #EnvironmentalStewardship #BuildingCommunities

🚴 Earlier this month, #McElhanney’s Planet Positive Committee put together a fantastic week of Go By Bike engagement activities that encouraged the team to get out on their bikes and enjoy the fresh air. Kudos to everyone who took part in Go By Bike week! Your dedication to biking instead of driving is fantastic. Let's keep the #GoByBike spirit alive and continue choosing sustainable transportation. Aidan Cooper, EIT, Project Engineer from our Edmonton Branch, agrees: “This was my first-time biking to work, and it won’t be the last, that’s for sure.” #PlanetPositive #Sustainability

Kudos to our very own Jarrett Maier, EIT, Civil Engineer from our Grande Prairie Branch, for coordinating the The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) Science Olympics event at Northwestern Polytechnic’s Grande Prairie Campus on June 1st. The event was a resounding success with 130 enthusiastic students. The teams of students tackled exciting problem-solving challenges prepared by volunteer APEGA members to inspire and explore topics of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). A shout out to the six McElhanney volunteers: Nisha Hajela, Manan Shah, Maria Pina, Tahlea Perry, Jarrett Maier, and Rachel Jebb. Thank you for your passion and commitment to help empower the next generation of engineers and geoscientists. #McElhanney was proud to sponsor the event and would like to congratulate all the students who took part in the #SciOlympics! 👏 #STEM #CommunityEngagement #McElhanney #FutureEngineer

We share knowledge to contribute to a better future. 🌟 McElhanney team members from our water and wastewater infrastructure division and our water resources division shared their knowledge in five different technical presentations this spring. These presentations ignited ideas, fueled conversations, and contributed to change. We’re proud to be home to these change-makers!
