𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐒 I had the privilege of speaking at the launch event of the Indiaspora Impact Report with MR Rangaswami (Indiaspora) and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Consulting Group at the Computer History Museum in Silicon Valley a few weeks back. I was a panelist on the Future of AI organized by CNBC-TV18 as part of its Voices from the Valley program. Shereen Bhan (CNBC-TV18) moderated the panel, which also included Radha Basu (iMerit Technology) and Manish Chandra (Poshmark). Other speakers included San Francisco Consulate General Srikar Reddy Koppula, Jay Vijayan (Tekion Corp), Geetha Murali (Room to Read), Moira Shourie (Zócalo Public Square) and George Kurian (NetApp). Here are some highlights from the report "Small Community, Big Contributions, Boundless Horizons" (https://lnkd.in/gKt5A8VB): • 5.1M Indian Americans (1.5% of the US population) represent the Indian diaspora. • The Indian diaspora contributes 5-6% of US taxes. • 78% have a bachelor's degree or higher, outpacing the US national average of 36%.  • 76% work in professions related to management, business, science or arts. • Indian diaspora represent 16 of the Fortune 500 CEOs. • Kamala Harris made history as the first woman US Vice President. • Doctors of Indian origin make up 10% of all physicians and serve 30% of patients. • Members of the Indian diaspora co-authored 13% of US scientific publications and 10% of US patents. • 35 out of 50 top US colleges have Indian Americans in leadership positions. • The Indian diaspora represents approximately 22,000 full-time faculty members at higher education institutions. • 270,000 Indian international students spend around $10B on US universities every year. • Members of the Indian diaspora have donated $3B to US universities. • Indian investment in the US grew to $40 billion. The answer is concise & convincing. In summary: AI Assistants do tasks; AI Copilots help you think about them. AI Assistant: Focus: Task Automation and Execution Interaction: Reactive - Responds to specific user requests or commands Scope: Narrow - Excels in specific tasks within a defined domain Think: "Do this for me." AI Copilot: Focus: Augmenting Human Intelligence and Decision-making Interaction: Proactive - Anticipates needs, provides suggestions, and collaborates on solutions Scope: Broader - Offers insights and recommendations across multiple aspects of a workflow Think: "Let's figure this out together."
