What is a Previvor? According to FORCE: Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered , the meaning of the word "previvor" is a "survivor of a predisposition to cancer." Previvors are people living with an inherited mutation who have never been diagnosed with cancer but maintain a heightened risk of cancer. Lynch previvors have a mutation specific to five genes involved in DNA mismatch repair: MLHL1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2, and EPCAM. #FightingForPrevivors #LynchSyndrome #cancerawareness

In June of 2009, Steve Mayberry was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. Steve's family had a history of cancer going back several generations. Specifically, Steve had Lynch syndrome, which is a hereditary gene mutation that predisposes people to a number of cancers, in Steve's case colon cancer. Mayberry Memorial aims to honor Steve Mayberry and help identify people with #LynchSyndrome so that they can be proactive with their health care.
