Kudos to our partners at the Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard which recently celebrated the official opening of its new headquarters in Cambridge. The new building will support the Institute’s research to harness the power of the human immune system to prevent and cure disease. It continues to be a privilege to partner on and support the Ragon Institute Summer Experience (RISE) internship program which engages high school and undergraduate students underrepresented in medical research who are interested in learning about immunology and related fields. Last Wednesday was another momentous day for our ecosystem with the opening of Moderna’s state-of-the-art global headquarters in Cambridge, MA. According to the company, this new space serves as a central hub, showcasing Moderna’s dedication to science, sustainability, and innovation. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, and Economic Development Secretary Yvonne Hao were on-hand for the celebration of the cutting-edge 460,000 sq. ft. facility.

The Mass Leads Act aims to strengthen Massachusetts’ global leadership and expand opportunity in our state now and for a generation to come. Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives (MBI), a key anchor to Central Massachusetts and the entire Commonwealth's life sciences ecosystem, has been supported by the MLSC enabling MBI to triple the capacity of the incubator’s facility, expand its workforce programming, and advance its cluster building activities. Kudos to Lucy Therapeutics, who recently announced they raised $12.5 million in additional funding led by existing and new investors. The company is working to develop novel therapies based on mitochondrial small-molecule treatments and diagnostic biomarkers for complex neurological diseases. Lucy Therapeutics is a previous MassNextGen awardee. The MLSC initiative is designed to support underrepresented entrepreneurs by providing them with a year-long customized package of support, which includes non-dilutive grant funding and access to a network of seasoned professionals from the life sciences ecosystem helping them to refine their business strategies and effectively raise capital.
