About us
Massachusetts Citizens for Children (MassKids) is the oldest state-based child advocacy organization in the country. Our mission is to improve the lives of the state's most vulnerable children through advocacy by concerned citizens. It was founded in 1959 by pediatrician Martha May Eliot, MD, who served as Chief of the U.S. Children’s Bureau and held influential positions in both the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). With active support from Governor Foster Furculo, they established MCC as a permanent, independent citizens’ voice for Massachusetts’ most vulnerable children. Throughout its 65-year history, our organization’s work has been grounded in the belief that all Massachusetts children have the inherent right - To be safe from abuse, neglect, and violence; To be economically secure and free from poverty; To receive quality medical and preventive care; To learn in quality child care and school settings; and To live in caring families and healthy communities. MassKids currently works to prevent child abuse through the work of the Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Center, the Enough Abuse Campaign and the Pledge to Prevent child sexual abuse. MassKids leads the Enough Abuse Campaign - a multi-state initiative working to educate and mobilize parents, professionals and communities to prevent child sexual abuse, and is launching the Pledge to Prevent nationally in April 2024. www.pledgetoprevent.org www.enoughabuse.org

All too often, teachers are fired or resign after the school finds out that they have engaged in sexual misconduct or abuse with student(s), and then that teacher goes on to work at other schools and abuse other students. This why we need laws criminalizing educator sexual misconduct regardless of the age of consent and preventing schools from "passing the trash". https://lnkd.in/gUqusM6w

As parents, we tend to normalize the use of silly nicknames when speaking to our children about their private body parts. This often tends to create confusion, shame, and embarrassment as well as fear. Promoting the practice of using accurate language when referring to private body parts has shown to be beneficial and aids in the growth and development of children. Think about it! We don’t refer to hands as “grabbers”, mouths as “chomp-chomps”, or noses as “smelly-willies”, so let’s create a safe space for our children and teach them the accurate medical names of their private body parts. #parentingadvice #keepkidssafe #preventchildabuse

Trish Kendall, MassKids Board Member, has an incredibly inspiring story and message which is showcased in her TEDx talk that was just released. We want to help her message get out to the world. Please give it a watch, and if it inspires you, like it did us, please like it and share with others.
I help organizations, teams and individuals create enduring success, together. Keynote Speaker | Inspirational Speaker | Growth Consultant | Team Development Facilitator | TEDx Speaker
For this edition of my Create Enduring Success newsletter (click on picture below) I highlight my first TEDx talk! I will share more about the experience of planning, preparing and practicing for THIS event . . . but for now, I want to share the performance. My friend, Craig Maloney, and I have talked about how speeches, or presentations or even critical, constructed discussion, are like a piece of music. A song. . . created and performed for a specific audience in order to achieve a specific desired outcome. This is my TEDx Walden Pond song. #enduringsuccess #embracelove #tedxtalk #tedxspeaker Nick Morgan

Tomorrow, Nov. 18th is the second annual World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Abuse, Exploitation and Violence as declared by the U.N. after a global collaborative of organizations, which we were proud to be a member of, came together to call for this. This week, we thank the Governor Maura Healey of Massachusetts for joining us in this movement with the declaration of Nov. 18th as Childhood Sexual Abuse Awareness Day. #EndChildSexAbuseDay #Nov18WorldDay #PreventionHealingJustice #enoughabuse
