The Heartland Whole Health Institute is coming along. It's not bright and sunny every day but when it is, a few photos can catch how the design is progressing. Thanks to Baldwin & Shell for their partnership on the Crystal Bridges campus project.

Architecture that’s thick, slow, and implicit.
About us
Since 1992, Marlon Blackwell Architects has designed for its clients award-winning, environmentally responsive projects. Our belief that architecture can happen anywhere, at any scale, at any budget - for anyone - drives us to challenge the conventions and models that often obscure other possibilities. We use an economy of means to deliver a maximum of meaning in places where architecture is often not expected to be found. As an agile, full service design firm, we advocate a participatory, collaborative design process between the client, contractors, and architect, where all voices are heard from conceptualization to the realization of each project. In every instance, we strive to express the richness of the places we work and the ideals of the people and institutions we serve.

Most people don’t associate air traffic control towers with high-design. Now, a new design by Marlon Blackwell Architects for a regional airport in Columbus, Indiana, bucks this trend and makes a monument out of the utilitarian typology. https://ow.ly/9A7K50Sq5pW

We were able to unveil the new Columbus, Indiana FAA tower yesterday to a great group of local residents and state leadership. The estimated $11.5 million project will bring their airport up to current FAA safety standards while opening the larger site for non-aviation related public use. Thanks to the rest of our team for helping us design a new regional landmark. This includes Woolpert, Guy Nordenson Associates, Thornton Tomasetti and Threshold Acoustics. You can read more about this project at Architectural Record.

Marlon Blackwell Architects is thrilled to receive one of the AIA Architecture Awards with the Thaden School Performance Center. As stated by the AIA, "these stunning projects show the world the range of outstanding work architects create and highlight the many ways buildings and spaces can improve our lives." We are committed to improving the lives of current, as well as future, generations of students. A big thank you to Thaden School for trusting MBA with the majority of their new buildings. https://lnkd.in/gsfztcXw

Does the word "park" mainly refer to driving your car, or to a space you visit that's relaxing? Maybe it could be both. The Crystal Bridges Museum Art Park Garage is coming to completion. It's designed as a space that provides ample new parking for the museum along with a place to enjoy some of the native elements of Northwest Arkansas. The garage part is now open with one of the retail spaces opening soon.

To quote William Faulkner, "If a story is in you, it has to come out." That's why MBA is honored to be the architect for University of Mississippi's Greenfield Farm Writers Residency project. Greenfield Farm will be a retreat-style writers compound built on a 20.4-acre farm once owned by Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Faulkner. Each year, Greenfield is projected to nurture 50-60 writers who have ties to Mississippi. You can ready more about the project at Ole Miss' website. https://lnkd.in/gJ_ZemBb

Another great story about the Ledger Building in Bentonville, Arkansas. As featured in the headline, it really is so much more than a bikeable building. The featured photos are by Tim Hursley, who has done a great job of documenting our work for decades. https://lnkd.in/ggjTwRQw
