Mark Brown, Executive Officer, presented new software along with an evacuation risk assessment to the Transportation Authority of Marin last month. This new technology will help emergency responders coordinate more efficiently in the event of a wildfire or other disasters. This was a collaboration between many agencies and shows the full support of the county toward preparing for wildfire. https://lnkd.in/g4xBXzPY

Transformation Thursday- Before and after a broom removal on an MWPA project. Can you believe some stores still sell this plant that is invasive and a fire risk? Neither can we. Make sure to research the plants you buy! #MarinWildfire #FireSafeMarin #MarinCountyMeasureC #GRVSFB

Check out a new episode from Open Road that features the FIRE Foundry program from the Marin County Fire Department. The goal of this program is to increase access to sustainable wage careers in the fire services for underrepresented groups in the sector. https://lnkd.in/g63pKBNR We are proud to help sponsor this groundbreaking program! #MarinCounty

One of our tools to help protect Marin County from wildfire is the implementation of Shaded Fuel Breaks. ➡️ Learn from Jacob Dadmun, MWPA Vegetation Specialist, how Shaded Fuel Breaks not only do minimum ecological harm, but actually help restore fractured and fire suppressed ecosystems 🔥 #MarinCounty

Fire Foundry recruits work with local fire departments to implement shaded fuel breaks and community adjacent defensible space as part of their training. This serves to reinforce classroom lessons on the effect of fuel reduction on fire behavior while developing potential employment pathways. Additionally, the participation of Fire Foundry recruits in local mitigation projects helps to close the local prevention workforce gap. #MarinCounty

Recently, the Marin Wildfire staff was invited to provide wildfire ecology training for the FIRE Foundry recruits. We toured the San Rafael/San Anselmo Fuel Reduction Zone project and discussed historical fires in the area and their impacts on the ecology. Fire Foundry provides a pathway to full-time fire service careers for unrepresented groups in Marin County. The cohorts have been crucial to many fuel mitigation projects here in Marin. Thank you Fire Foundry for all your hard work! #marincounty

The Mill Valley Shaded Fuel Break is helping maintain and establish defensible space along the perimeter of many residential hillside communities. Clearing dead and down woody debris and other fire hazardous vegetation reduces the fuel load which lowers the intensity of a wildfire. It also helps promote healthy native plants! Learn more about the effectiveness of Shaded Fuel Breaks on Fire Severity in our newly released literature review and analysis ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ https://ow.ly/qpSe50R1KRA #marincounty

Marin Wildfire recently published a research paper covering the scientific evidence of Shaded Fuel Breaks. Shaded Fuel Breaks are a vegetation management strategy for reducing wildfire intensity where surface fuels (e.g., sticks, leaves, branches and downed logs) and ladder fuels (e.g., shrubs, tall grasses, saplings, and lower branches of trees) are reduced or removed while keeping most of the mature trees and upper canopy intact. These efforts reduce fuels a fire has access to, reducing fire severity and making it easier to suppress, while keeping intact the plant communities in the area and reducing regrowth of hazardous vegetation via shade.
