As we approach the sixth anniversary of Pennsylvania’s Collaborative Law Act, we’re proud to highlight our Pittsburgh partner Bernadette Staroschuck, who has been practicing family law for over 35 years. Five years before the law was enacted, she co-authored the book, "Developing a Collaborative Family Law Practice." To say she is a pioneer in family law is an understatement. #FamilyLaw Learn more about Bernadette here: https://lnkd.in/ebq6VK-C

Pennsylvania Auto Law Update: Last week, an Allegheny County trial court awarded $148,000 in medical expenses for a spinal surgery that occurred in Florida. The court found that the Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law's cost containment provisions did not apply. Both sides have appealed. We’re thrilled to share that Philadelphia partners Jennifer Coatsworth and Sean Phelan recently secured a substantial settlement for our client, a nonprofit organization serving underprivileged youth in Philadelphia. Our client faced a significant Confession of Judgment claim for purported unpaid rent from a commercial landlord with a history of hazardous conditions at its properties. The nonprofit was forced to relocate due to safety risks. Jen and Sean filed a countersuit asserting multiple causes of action, leading the landlord to drop its claim and agree to the settlement.
