M-Works Search Engineering Video Friday. Things are still manufactured in the USA. I found this cool video which highlights top selling products that are still Made in the United States of America. When I watched this video, I wasn’t surprised to see Harley Davidson motorcycles and Airstream recreational vehicles on this list. I would have thought that other products like KitchenAid mixers, Zippo Lighters and Yankee Candles were now made overseas which isn’t the case. These products are still made here. Check out this video to learn about these best-selling items that are still Made in the United States. https://buff.ly/3VTG1Ff M-Works Search-Working to identify the best manufacturing professionals®

Does your Linked In work experience read like “alphabet soup?” I view a lot of Linked In profiles while sourcing engineers for our client projects. Once I identify engineers within target companies, I jump to the experience page to learn about the person’s background and accomplishments. Recently, I have been noticing a worrying trend with engineers only including a list of generic skills in their work experience section. These generic skills sections are nothing more than “alphabet soup.” It’s a lot of letters that really don’t provide a clear picture of your background or offer any value. See a couple examples below. Example A Skills: ISO 9001 • ISO Standards • Auditing • Root Cause Analysis • Technical Documentation • Project Planning • Project Coordination • Project Management Example B Skills: Project Control • Intellectual • Project Delivery • Self-confidence • Technical Leadership • Capital Assets • Plant Operations • Creative Problem Solving • Team Management • Problem Analysis • Employee Training • Data Collection • Team Motivation • Key Performance Indicators • Leadership • Communication • Capital Budgeting • Operating Budgets • Operational Excellence • Manufacturing Operations • Interpersonal Communication • Critical Thinking • Organizational Leadership • Team Building • Leadership Development • Continuous Improvement • Operations Management If your Linked In experience section looks like this, you are selling yourself short and not providing any information of value to persons who may have an interest in you like a recruiter or prospective employer. There’s no place for “alphabet soup” on your Linked In profile or resume. If your profile is “alphabet soup” you may want to consider re-doing it to highlight what you do and then more importantly listing your accomplishments especially those where you have made a positive and quantitative impact in your current organization. Use your Linked In profile to craft a compelling picture of your background and experience. Give persons a reason to engage with you through your Linked In profile otherwise it’s nothing more than “alphabet soup” and who reaches for an “alphabet soup” when they have a choice.
