Lyric Opera of Chicago is pleased to announce that following an international search, John Mangum has been appointed the company’s fifth General Director, President & CEO. Having held significant artistic and executive leadership roles at some of the country’s foremost performing arts organizations — including the Houston Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, New York Philharmonic, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic — we look forward to welcoming him to the Lyric family this fall. “On behalf of the Board, I am thrilled to welcome John Mangum to Lyric Opera of Chicago. I moderated a panel of opera artists as a board member at the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s YP All Hands Meeting. It was inspiring to engage in conversation with Chris Humbert Jr., a bass-baritone, and Adia Evans, a soprano. Please join us for Verdi’s Rigoletto which begins on September 14th! #lyricopera #opera #chicago

#NationalInternDay, During my time working with Lyric Opera of Chicago I am proud to say that I have shared many great memories and have gained life lessons I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere else. I’m pleased to be one of this year's Virginia Intern Day Student Ambassadors. This internship has opened me to a world of possibilities, and I can not thank Lyric,Camilla Fernandez, and Randolph College enough for making this opportunity possible. I wish my fellow interns the best, and hope that other interns had just as much of experience as I did.

Grateful for 3 years of growth at Lyric Opera of Chicago! I’m proud I get to play even a small role in making the magic happen at Lyric. Each day brings a new lesson, and I am so lucky that I get to learn from some of the best colleagues in the business, and that I get to call those colleagues my friends. A special shout out to Lyric’s Boards and Events team - you’re the best of the best.

I love Chicago, but I’ll forever be a St. Louis girl in my heart. When our colleagues at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis brought their Artists-in-Training to Chicago on a college tour, I jumped at the chance to show them around Lyric Opera of Chicago. There is little that fills my cup more than a bunch of young singers testing the acoustics of our opera house…especially when they’re from my hometown.

Seems like the perfect post to announce that Lyric’s Fall internships are now open! Come work with us in Development, Artistic Operations/Lyric Unlimited, and People & Culture this season! https://lnkd.in/gQkZftRv
It is a privilege to manage and mentor interns through Lyric's paid internship program. Guiding our interns as they begin their careers in development and arts administration has been incredibly rewarding. It's been immensely gratifying to see our interns secure positions with esteemed organizations like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, WTTW, and most recently, the Field Museum. Watching these young professionals grow and succeed has been a true highlight of my career. I'm grateful for the resources and thoughtful intern programming offered at Lyric, made possible through generous donor funding. Here's to supporting the next generation of leaders in the arts!

Happy National Take Your Dog to Work Day with Lyric Opera of Chicago! We rolled out the red carpet for our employees’ furry friends, turning our office into a playground. Sharing the day with our Lyric colleagues and their adorable doggies was a blast. The highlight? I’m so excited to share I’ve started my Marketing & PR internship at Lyric Opera of Chicago. It’s been just over a week since my first day, and I’ve already had the opportunity to begin multiple writing projects. This opportunity is especially valuable and important to me because it allows me to use my studies in Writing, Rhetoric, & Discourse for real and practical purposes. Thank you to Camilla Fernandez and the whole team for making me feel so welcome. Looking forward to a great summer ahead!

I remain invested....I remain passionate, and because of that...I will continue to fight. “Afton Battle, Vice President of Lyric Unlimited and Artistic Operations at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, said Slack was chosen because she is an artist with a well-known career and has a passion, a creative way of collaborating and artmaking and an artistic vision that aligns with Lyric Unlimited and its civic engagement activities. Knowing of Karen’s work to amplify female composers and female creatives, the work that she does to amplify artists and creatives of color, especially Black artists and creatives, really resonated with the mission of Lyric Unlimited and this program." Honored to have Karen Slack as Lyric Opera of Chicago Lyric Unlimited Artist in Residence. https://lnkd.in/gM5ysDmr
