Camp Knutson, located near Crosslake, Minnesota, is a nurturing and supportive camp for children and adults with disabilities, medical conditions and other identified needs. Avery first came to camp when she was 13 years old. This summer is her second working as a program specialist, helping to make campers' time at Camp Knutson their favorite part of the year, just like it still is for her. Camp Knutson is a service of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota. Learn more at campknutson.org

Meet Lee Cain, the 84-year-old undisputed grandpa to students at an elementary school, who lovingly call him Grandpa Lee when they greet him every day. That’s because Lee is a Foster Grandparent at the school, spending time with students in the lunchroom, in classrooms, on the playground, and sometimes in one-to-one conversations over a book in the hallway. Foster Grandparent volunteers provide support for children and youth to help them boost their self-esteem and overall success. Foster Grandparent volunteers not only bring joy to the lives of many but also find joy in knowing their volunteer work contributes to their community. “I wasn’t doing much after retiring,” Lee said. “I like it because it helps the community, and it keeps me busy, too.” Learn about becoming a Foster Grandparent volunteer: https://lnkd.in/gekfBYhm

Community First Services and Supports (CFSS) is an upcoming self-directed program that the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is developing. CFSS will replace both personal care assistance (PCA) and Consumer Support Grant (CSG) services. DHS recently announced that CFSS will begin implementation starting October 1, 2024. PICS (Partners in Community Supports), a subsidiary of LSS, is here to support you as you transition to CFSS. PICS’ recent blog post answers several questions about CFSS: https://lnkd.in/gB-qdmwY
