Lunda Construction Company is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the $53.6M Kellogg/3rd Street Bridge Replacement Project by the city of St. Paul, Minnesota! The current bridge, originally built in 1982, will be replaced with a new bridge with 13 spans totaling over 2,100' in length. The new bridge will not only have four lanes of traffic (two in each direction) but also multi-use paths on both sides of the roadway. These 12' wide paths will be shared by bicycles and pedestrians, and most importantly, will be separated from vehicle traffic by a concrete barrier, ensuring the safety of all travelers. #infrastructure #bridges #bridgeconstruction #construction #multimodaltransportation #walkablecities #stpaul #connectingcommunities #lundaconstruction #lunda

On a hot summer day, it's always nice to spend some time on the water! Our I-70 Rocheport Bridge crew continued their great progress today and wanted to share these photos of just some of their work on this impressive project. Long before the concrete for a bridge deck is poured, there are countless people and literally tons of resources at work behind, and below the scenes.   Bridge construction is uniquely challenging because it requires special equipment to move a wide variety of materials over many types of terrain. And sometimes... over no terrain at all! Did you know that Lunda has its own extensive inventory of highly specialized construction equipment, including crawler cranes and rough terrain cranes, as well as tugboats and over 300 barges? Here barges on the Missouri River haul supplies to the site, and are used to move equipment in and out of the work zone. Smaller sectional barges are pinned together to provide massive platforms to support heavy machinery. On any given bridge project, barges can also hold materials like pre-tied rebar cage, or support concrete pumps during the deck pour. The many cranes on this project, some on land, some on the water, assist with various construction activities, while specialty equipment like Bid-Well work bridges help with finishing and texturing bridge decks. You can also see the small city that has developed to house offices, store supplies, and support the vital craftspersons, including operators, carpenters, cement masons, ironworkers, laborers and electricians that are making the new Lance Corporal Leon Deraps I-70 Missouri River Bridge a reality. Building a bridge considered to be "the country’s freight nexus" is an impressive exercise in staging and logistics, and the I-70 Rocheport crew is showing us all how it’s done. The recent Women Building Success awards ceremony was a not only a fantastic opportunity to showcase the phenomenal work this organization does to promote and support women working in the union construction trades, but also a chance to highlight the efforts of exceptional individuals who are emerging and continuing leaders in the industry. Lunda is honored to say that three of our outstanding women were nominated this year: Christa Seaberg, Isabelle Schultz, and Elizabeth Gelbman. They, along with Tracey Jackson, celebrated the achievements of all their peers at last week's event. June is National Safety Month, but it goes without saying that safety should be a primary concern for everyone all year long. At Lunda, we engage in daily safety huddles, weekly safety meetings, safety stand downs, and ongoing safety training for all of the people working on our jobs every day to shape the infrastructure of America. Safety stand downs are focused events that occur outside of the regular safety meeting schedule. They can feature the latest training on state-of-the-art safety equipment, direct from the manufacturers of that equipment, like this 3M fall protection training held recently in our Milwaukee location. The Missouri Department of Transportation is hosting this event to encourage disadvantaged business enterprises to meet pre-qualified teams and learn more about subcontracting opportunities on Improve I-70 KC. This important project is one of several projects that will modernize the I-70 corridor across the state. Since its original construction more than 50 years ago, I-70 has been a vital lifeline for moving people, goods and information across Missouri and beyond. This #flashbackfriday has us visiting the Liberty Memorial Bridge in Bismarck, North Dakota. Built in 1922, the original bridge was one of the final links in the transcontinental highway (later called the National Parks Highway). That bridge was the first permanent crossing of the Missouri River in North Dakota. It was christened the Liberty Memorial Bridge in honor of World War I soldiers from North Dakota. In 2006, Lunda Construction was awarded the contract to replace the original bridge. The new bridge, completed in 2009, is 2,369 feet long, with a main span of 1,658 feet across the water. The replacement bridge continues to honor veterans, recognizing all branches of the military, and those who serve our country, with a design incorporating five overlooks, and two plazas as a tribute to military veterans. #fbf #infrastructure #bridges #bridgeconstruction #lundaconstruction #lunda
