We are pleased to announce the award of our latest SBIR grant, bringing our running total of pre-seed funding to $3.1M. 💡THE INVENTION:  A self-care continence pessary to treat stress urinary incontinence in people with vaginal anatomy. 💵THE GRANT:  A Phase IIb Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development of the The National Institutes of Health, in the amount of $563,000, to perform nonclinical safety and durability testing in support of FDA clearance. 💦THE SIGNIFICANCE:  Some 78 million Americans with vaginal anatomy are affected by symptoms of urinary incontinence, with approximately 29 million managing moderate to severe leakage on a regular basis. This number will rise to 40 million or more by 2060, as the population ages. 🏥THE CONTEXT:  Fundamental patterns of healthcare seeking are in flux. The high cost and unequal distribution of care, combined with growing practitioner shortages, requires a paradigm shift to a system in which technology-assisted self-care complements existing clinical practice.
