Did you know that clouds cover about 65% of Earth's surface, often obscuring valuable data collected by Earth Observation satellites? 🛰️ Typically, 30% to 40% of downlinked satellite images are rendered useless and discarded due to excessive cloud cover, resulting in significant financial losses. At Little Place Labs, we're revolutionizing satellite operations with our onboard cloud masking capabilities. Our product suite, “Orbitfy Prep” suite leverages edge computing capabilities to process raw data and identify cloud-covered images directly in orbit. This means only useful images are downlinked significantly reducing unnecessary data downlink and cutting downlink costs by up to 40%, while also enabling rapid insights. Orbitfy Prep is designed to work with hyperspectral, multispectral & optical RGB imagery, agnostic of sensor bands, resolutions, and wavelengths, to support a variety of sensors and types of data. Want to optimize your satellite operations and save costs? Read our latest blog and reach out to discover how Orbitfy Prep can revolutionize your satellite operations Check here : https://lnkd.in/djWkc-rV #littleplacelabs #edgecomputing #cloudmasking #earthobservation #satelliteoperators #spacetech

Glimpse from SUREDOS24 at ESA! 🛰️ Our data scientist, Parampuneet Thind, attended the European Space Agency - ESA's SUREDOS (Super-Resolution and Downscaling for Earth Observation and Earth Science) workshop hosted by Nicolas Longépé, her mentor at ESA Փ-lab. She learned about the exciting world of #SuperResolution (enhancing image resolution) for space applications. Here are some Key Takeaways: -> Task-Driven Reconstruction for Spacecraft Data:  The workshop highlighted a few methods for tailoring super-resolution of data to specific space missions and allows optimized image reconstruction for tasks like object detection or resource mapping on planetary bodies. -> Unsupervised SR for Limited Space Data: The workshop helped us to explore and know about the techniques to enable super-resolution with limited paired high-low resolution data, which is often scarce for space missions. -> 10x Super-Resolution: We’re pushing boundaries to achieve 2x or 4x to 10x or higher resolution enhancement in satellite imagery that is crucial for space applications requiring detailed space observation. -> Physics-Aware AI for Space Image Analysis: Incorporating physics principles into AI models to improve interpretability and reliability of reconstructed space images for accurate analysis. The workshop also emphasized the importance of responsible innovation. While reconstruction techniques offer exciting possibilities, it's crucial to acknowledge that simply increasing resolution doesn't guarantee complete accuracy. As Nicolas Longépé and Luis Gómez-Chova rightly emphasized, establishing robust benchmarking practices is paramount. The industry needs to agree on standardized metrics and test data to ensure SR techniques are optimized for specific use cases. This will prevent the creation of misleading "hallucinations" and ensure the generated data remains trustworthy. At Little Place Labs, we're excited to collaborate and contribute towards the broader space community to address these challenges and help in developing trustworthy cutting-edge super resolution techniques for precise space observation and exploration. #SUREDOS24 #SuperResolution #EarthObservation #remotesensing #philab #littleplacelabs
