Your #trauma is valid and should not be compared to anyone else’s trauma. Trauma is one’s unique response to a traumatic event, so we cannot let other people’s experiences determine how we feel about our own. Two people can experience the same exact event, but that event can affect them both very differently based on their own personal set of risk and protective factors. i.e. things that protect you from trauma and things that put you at risk for trauma. Someone who goes through something you see as incredibly traumatic may not suffer from any PTSD symptoms. This may not be because they are stronger; it just means they had a different response. On the other hand, you may go through something you believe isn’t “that bad” and it can still affect you, and if it does, it doesn’t mean you are weak, it means you are human with your own set of responses.
