We all enter life as a blank canvas. With love, security, and expression, we can each become a masterpiece.

About us

Founded in 1996, Life Pieces To Masterpieces is a year-round out-of-school-time organization that uses artistic expression to develop character and leadership, unlock innate potential, and prepare African American boys and young men to transform their lives and communities. Our vision is that LPTM gentlemen will be catalysts for positive change in their communities and the world. Life Pieces was the first arts-based program in the nation specifically geared toward African American boys (starting as young as age 3 & extending to young adulthood) and has been going strong for 25 years, impacting the lives of more than 2,000 young men.

Updates

  • ZOOM! Last week, the older LPTM Apprentices went on a go-karting field trip! As you can see, they were pretty satisfied with the experience! Also, in case you haven't heard: Orange Barrel Media has joined LPTM in celebrating our 28th anniversary by providing electronic billboards for us to showcase our work throughout DC! We're featured directly above the Chinatown-Gallery Place Station and right by the Navy Yard-Ballpark Station! If you come across our billboards in your city travels, tag our account and/or the hashtag #LPTMinLights – the first 28 people to tag us with photos of our billboards will enter a raffle to win an original LPTM painting of their choice, OR a beautiful canvas print!

  • We're happy to announce that last week, LPTM's Finance and Operations Director, Tamba Murray, graduated from Leadership Greater Washington's Rising Leaders program! He joins several other LPTM staff as a graduate of this incredible program! Brother Tamba and all of LPTM are thankful to LGW, The World Bank, and Crimsonbridge Foundation for sponsoring and supporting this amazing opportunity. We're excited to see how Brother Tamba will take what he's learned from being a Rising Leader and apply it to his work at LPTM! 🏆 #lgw #leadershipgreaterwashington #lgwrisingleaders #risingleaders

  • An IMMENSE honor from the National Center for Children and Families! We're so grateful!

For this year's HeART of Community Gala, we are delighted to highlight one of our special guests, Life Pieces To Masterpieces! Like NCCF, this organization is committed to providing artistic opportunities to underrepresented youth. Founded in 1996 by artist Larry Quick and co-founders Mary Brown and Ben Johnson, LPTM has grown from a small after-school arts program into a beacon of hope and development for young Black males in Washington DC’s Wards 7 & 8. Attending this year's HeART of Community Gala will allow you to see firsthand how Life Pieces To Masterpieces transforms the lives of its participants, also demonstrating the vast potential of art to enrich communities. Join us to experience the profound influence of art across our community! We included a video below to give you a glimpse of what to expect at this year's event. Sponsorships start at $75! • LPTM's colorful halls and dedicated staff are ready for our biggest-ever summer program - and it's kicked off without a hitch! Our Connecting Communities Across the Globe Summer Program started this week. We are so excited to work, play, and learn with all of our 130 Apprentices this summer as we learn about the nations of Sierra Leone and South Korea!
