About us
Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss is a premier international firm with extensive practices in insurance, reinsurance, international financial disputes and global commercial litigation. Our firm’s commitment to social justice is reflected in its pro bono work on such issues as death penalty reform and the rights of detainees under extra-judicial circumstances. We have an exemplary record assisting corporations, insurers, financial institutions, family conglomerates, public officials and professionals facing complex, high stakes problems that potentially impact value and brand. A team of problem-solvers and effective litigators, Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss has unraveled some of the world’s tightest legal knots, including the BCCI insolvency, billion-dollar RICO cases and the largest fraud in Middle East history. We are tough, focused and lean, able to move nimbly with our clients and address their individual needs in ways that bloated, bureaucratic firms cannot. And we realize that settling matters before they enter into costly, extended trials – through negotiation, mediation or arbitration – may be the wisest course. And that’s why so many of our clients have remained with us for years. * * * * Attorney Advertising This profile has been developed for Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss PLLC and may be considered attorney advertising under the rules of some jurisdictions. In this episode of Crypto Compliance, Carol Van Cleef sits down with cybersecurity expert Carole House before she returns to the National Security Council.
Digital Assets Before and After Bitcoin Surrounded by Lots of AML, Sanctions and Other Laws, Regulations and Compliance
What a privilege (and honor of course) to host Carole House for an hour-long discussion on cybersecurity, digital assets and US policy on her last day in the private sector. As we all know, a one-hour conversation with Carole is more like a three-hour conversation with a mere mortal. The breadth and depth of her knowledge and experience with both the issues and the underlying technologies as well as her sensitivities to the nuanced discussions they warrant make us hopeful that the increasing polarization we have been witnessing can be dialed back in the interest of meaningful progress. LBKM partner Arthur Middlemiss is quoted extensively in Salon.com on the factors affecting the former president's criminal sentencing. “The mitigating factors in favor of a lesser sentence and probably a non-jail sentence are Trump's advanced age, the fact that he's a first time offender, and whether you like it or appreciate it or not, he's got a history of public service.” Middlemiss said Trump does face factors that “would weigh in favor of a more serious sentence.” “Trump, on the other hand, was completely unrepentant, didn't admit guilt, never acknowledged that he was sorry, that he did these things, and was completely contentious of the court and the process by which he was convicted."
“A ton of aggravating factors”: Experts say Trump not helping himself ahead of sentencing hearing
