This month, we celebrate the vibrant diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. At the same time, LSC acknowledges the ongoing violence faced by transgender individuals. Tragically, in 2024 alone, at least seventeen transgender and gender-expansive people have lost their lives to hate and violence. We stand in solidarity with the transgender community, honor the memories of those we've lost, and commit to continuing the fight for justice and equality. About us
Legal Services for Children (LSC) is the Bay Area’s leader in trauma-informed lawyering for children and youth. Founded in 1975, LSC is one of the first non-profit law firms in the nation dedicated to providing free legal and social work services to children. LSC serves over 1,000 youth each year, 98% of whom are children of color and 60% of whom speak primary languages other than English. At LSC the child is the client, and because each of them has experienced some form of trauma—often chronic, pervasive, and aggravated by extreme poverty and racism—the time they spend working with LSC is designed to be therapeutic. The clients we serve are undocumented immigrant youth, youth in foster care, youth who are being pushed out of school via broken school discipline systems, and youth in need of legal guardianships. With an attorney-social worker team model, LSC works to build their strengths, network of supports, and resiliency, so they can address the trauma, begin to heal, and continue their development on healthy, functional paths to adulthood.

Thank you to everyone who attended An Evening with LSC 2024! It was a wonderful evening filled with great company, celebration, and talented performers. We appreciate our pro bono attorneys, foster parents, volunteers, and community supporters who give their time, energy, and expertise to help youth change their lives. And, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we raised funds to continue to say, "Yes, we can help you," when young people in crisis call on us. We especially thank our sponsors, Neyers Vineyards, Prescott Circus Theatre, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and LSC's staff, who work to empower youth every day. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to positive change in our world. We hope to see you all again next year! #NonProfitOrganization #YouthServices #LegalServices #FundraisingGala #ProBono #SanFranciscoNonprofit #BayArea #Changemaker #CharityFundraiser

May is National Foster Care Month. LSC recognizes the importance of raising awareness about the more than 365,000 children and youth in foster care nationwide. In San Francisco alone, there are 640 youth in the foster care system. LSC is the only organization representing children in foster care cases in San Francisco. The average child spends nearly two years in foster care, and by the age of 18, many have lived in multiple homes and attended an average of nine schools. This month highlights the critical need for more support, resources, and permanent homes for these young individuals. #fostercareawareness #nationalfostercaremonth #youthservices #nonprofitorganization
