This month, we celebrate the vibrant diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. At the same time, LSC acknowledges the ongoing violence faced by transgender individuals. Tragically, in 2024 alone, at least seventeen transgender and gender-expansive people have lost their lives to hate and violence. We stand in solidarity with the transgender community, honor the memories of those we've lost, and commit to continuing the fight for justice and equality. May is National Foster Care Month. LSC recognizes the importance of raising awareness about the more than 365,000 children and youth in foster care nationwide. In San Francisco alone, there are 640 youth in the foster care system. LSC is the only organization representing children in foster care cases in San Francisco. The average child spends nearly two years in foster care, and by the age of 18, many have lived in multiple homes and attended an average of nine schools. This month highlights the critical need for more support, resources, and permanent homes for these young individuals. #fostercareawareness #nationalfostercaremonth #youthservices #nonprofitorganization
