SSA amendments enabled federal grants for state social services such as transportation, adult daycare, employment training, nutrition assistance and more.  Nursing homes and older adult well-being were in focus as well. With increased media coverage of nursing homes, IAHA knew legislative action could be in order, which is why we hired our first-ever lobbyist. Leading the way in Advocacy — Public policy updates we're celebrating! 🗂️ Bill SB774 — Amends the Assisted Living and Shared Housing Act. For over two decades, this bill which would allow Certified Medication Aides in Assisted and Supportive Living was a proposal. Due to significant advocacy by LeadingAge Illinois and by working with legislative leaders in Illinois, we were able to facilitate the passing of this bill. 🗂️ Bill HB5086 — Amends the Nurse Practice Act. This bill places liability on nurse staffing agencies for the quality of care provided by their staff. As this legislation is now passed and sent to the Governor of Illinois, it makes a pivotal step in addressing key challenges faced by our provider members. 🗂️ Bill HB5000 — Amends the Assisted Living and Shared Housing Act. This bill broke a significant barrier in the level of care delivered to residents, by allowing nurses working in assisted living to provide catheter care to residents. We worked closely with the minority leadership to help pass this essential bill.
