Executive Leadership Program Bridging Community Leaders with Community Issues

About us

Founded in 1976 to broaden & diversify the leaders making decisions about the Nashville's future, the LEADERSHIP NASHVILLE FOUNDATION engages, informs and inspires proven leaders with a three-dimensional view of this city. Metropolitan Nashville is a union of satellite cities and neighborhoods, participants live and work in communities that are near and yet worlds apart. Leadership Nashville plays a vital role in moving us forward as one city. Founder Nelson Andrews, program designer Brent Poulton, PhD, and an impressive steering committee, determined that this educational program would have sustainable impact on Nashville’s long-term success. 47 years and 1,600+ alumni later, Nashville has been referred to as an “It City” for years now…many elements of our city's success can be linked to relationships formed among Leadership Nashville classmates that otherwise may not have occurred. The vision continues today: To build channels of communication between established leaders. To connect these leaders with community issues. To equip participants with insights, not solutions. Each year, proven leaders are selected from hundreds of applicants to experience an unbiased view of Metro Nashville Davidson County, including realities beyond the zip codes where they live and work. The men and women selected each year represent a diversity of races, religions, ages and political persuasions, as well as a geographical cross section of neighborhoods. Each class includes native Nashvillians and others who have moved here in leadership positions. Participants are educators, doctors, bankers, artists, businesspeople, rabbis, ministers, lawyers, and representatives of labor, public service, international communities and the volunteer sector. Led by 300+ alumni volunteers, classes are exposed to issues in government, public safety, education, social services, transportation, business, religion, race relations, urban planning, media, the arts and more over a 10 month program year.

Leadership Nashville Announces Class of 2024-2025 As one of the oldest community leadership programs in the country, Leadership Nashville’s nine-month independent executive program strengthens Nashville through deep connections formed among proven leaders while experiencing a three-dimensional view of our city. Engaged, informed and inspired, these leaders emerge better equipped to make decisions that support the Nashville community overall. Evette White, executive director of the program, said the key to Leadership Nashville’s success over the past 47 years is the diverse leadership experience of its participants. Each class represents a variety of professions, industries, races, genders, religions and neighborhoods. “Selection for each carefully curated class is difficult because of the large number of very qualified applicants,” White stated. The participants announced today were chosen from over 250 applications. The selection process takes place each spring when alumni and the public are encouraged to nominate established leaders who are willing to devote the time and effort to an in-depth study of Metro Nashville Davidson County. Seven program days bookended by retreats, the course begins in September, focusing on issues related to government & media, diversity equity & inclusion, business, education, quality of life, health, arts & entertainment and public safety. “Leadership Nashville was founded in 1976 as an executive level organization connecting top leaders rather than a leadership training program. It provides a ‘master’s level backstage pass’ to the city and becomes a bridge, connecting people and the issues facing Nashville,” added White. “We do not attempt to provide solutions,” she added. “In fact, our participants are so diverse that they wouldn’t agree with each other – by design. Instead, we expose them to various viewpoints on each issue, believing that Nashville will be stronger because decisions these leaders make in the future will come from a broadened, enlightened perspective.” Chairing the selection committee this year was Courtney Ross, senior manager, community engagement, Amazon. Beth Chase, retired founder, C3 Consulting, is president of the Leadership Nashville Board of Trustees. Leadership Nashville has provided a multi-dimensional view of opportunities and critical issues to proven leaders from all parts of this community since 1976, resulting in diverse, connected, enlightened leaders making broader-based decisions that move Nashville forward as one city.
