Today, we’re kicking off our summer intern spotlight series! 🌳 First up, meet Jesus Contreras, a policy advocate intern who wrapped up his internship last week. Thank you Jesus for all of your work this summer! As a returning intern, Jesus brought a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our team. His background in community outreach and ability to connect with people made him a valuable asset. Keep an eye out for spotlights on each intern! 💫

As we look back, we honor the quick community action during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. During these moments of uncertainty and stress, community members stuck together and showed up when it mattered the most. We partnered with the community of Lanare on vaccine outreach and helped provide over 1,000 vaccines to members of the community through door-to-door canvassing, phone calls, and bilingual registration. We’re thankful to serve communities in rural California and ensure equal access to opportunity to all. Please consider making a year end contribution to support our work with San Joaquin and Eastern Coachella Valley communities in the year to come: https://lnkd.in/gGMKKnDq. #10YearsofLCJA

As we look back, we reflect on the tenacity of Planada residents and allies who secured $20M in the 2023–24 state budget to support recovery efforts from devastating flooding in January. Planada community leaders worked with Senator Anna Caballero, Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria, Speaker Robert Rivas, Governor Gavin Newsom, Valley Onward, and UC Merced Community and Labor Center, among others, to secure the investment in recovery and resilience. Residents are now providing input to the County’s fund distribution plan to make sure the aid addresses community needs. Your support this year will help us continue to work alongside communities like Planada: https://lnkd.in/gGMKKnDq.
