We couldn't agree more, Shafic Sraj, MD, MBA, FAAOS!! "Dr. Sraj said the introduction of ultrasound guidance, wireless scopes and smaller high-resolution visualization screens will help push procedures out of the operating room. “I don’t have room for old-fashioned arthroscopy towers in my office surgical suites,” he said. “I want wireless equipment that connects to a tablet that is put on a table.”" #ArthroFree #GoWireless Great article out of OrthoWorld this month that is close to our wireless hearts: 💙 https://lnkd.in/gU8HiGjt

Surround yourself with good 👏 people 👏 Meet Briyana, one of the critical pieces of the Lazurite puzzle. She is the kind of gal that jumps up and gives you a high five when you need something shipped out to a distributor, because she gets it! She knows this isn’t a to-do, it’s an opportunity and a great sign that things are moving forward. Hold that kind of person close in your org, they are so key to field ops success and start up life!! No surprise she was a “People First” core value award winner for 2023! We love you to the moon and back, Bri!!! 🌕💕🚀 Lazurite #peoplefirst

We love getting our weekly newsletter from the team at BONEZONE Magazine | OMTEC Expo to keep up with Orthopedic information. Imagine our surprise when #ArthroFree is the feature image for an article about Medical Innovation. Author Dan Cook discusses the importance of assembling the right team with Vadim Gurevich, President and CEO of GLW Medical Innovation. We are fortunate to have a diverse group of surgeon advisors such as Dr. Laith Jazrawi from NYU who has been a key contributor to our continuous improvement in the development and launch of ArthroFree. Other critical medical advisors include Dr.Chris Proctor, Dr. James Voos, and Dr. Mark Schickendantz, MD. We’re thankful for all the surgeons who have used our innovative technology and provided feedback on their experiences to allow us to make the best device possible. #sportsmedicine #arthroscopy #orthopedics #orthopedicsurgeon https://lnkd.in/e3kQK5Mn

The power of partnerships for healthtech innovation. (The awesome acronyms don't hurt either.) >>> The TLDR: it's a nearly $50M federal award for a research team at Case Western Reserve University to "begin work on engineering, growing and commercializing 'live' replacement joints" to treat osteoarthritis. The "OMEGA Team" includes CWRU, Colorado State University, The Ohio State University, Rice University and Washington State University--as well as Sapphiros AI Bio, University Hospitals, the Louis Stokes Cleveland Vamc, and Massachusetts General Hospital. (OMEGA refers to Orchestrating Multifaceted Engineering for Growing Artificial joints.) It's full of alpha scientists. The award is part of DHHS's Novel Innovations for Tissue Regeneration in Osteoarthritis (NITRO) program. It's designed to boost projects that address health problems that defy traditional research or regular commercial activity. The goal is clear: "solutions . . . to benefit everyone." With the help Ohio Life Sciences, OhioX, UH, The MetroHealth System (Cleveland, OH), Cleveland Clinic and the vibrant work of so many biotech and medtech companies, Cleveland (and NEOhio) definitely rocks.

With Opening Day for Major League Baseball (MLB) on Thursday, predictions abound. "It's tough to make predictions," though, as Yogi Berra warned, "especially about the future.” (The hard part, really, is making accurate predictions.) This healthcare forecast from Advisory Board (in comments) reprises a popular theme: the impact of technology. It's difficult to remember, though, when healthcare might have been tech-agnostic--if ever. So it's nice to see a recommendation about the "opportunity for organizations to strategically invest in technologies that align with broader strategic goals like top-of-license care and worker retention." AI is noted, but technologies that simplify workflow for staff are key. We've seen anecdotal evidence in that regard, but we need more studies on technology, workflow, and retention of nurses, surgical techs, and others. Let's hope 2024 delivers an even more robust understanding of why nurses, especially, remain at their current facilities. And let's go Cleveland Guardians! / Mark Schickendantz, MD University Hospitals Ventures Hospital for Special Surgery Jacob G. Bruce Hahn will be representing Lazurite on March 23 at the Charleston Pediatric ENT update in Charleston, SC. This great event is dedicated to helping pediatricians and GPs stay up to speed on all things ENT. Look for the ArthroFree banner: Bruce will be nearby introducing a largely new audience to the surgical camera for the wireless era. In 2024, we’ve had some real enthusiastic responses from surgeons in otolaryngology. (See the comments for help with pronunciation.) For those of you attending: please say hello to Bruce, and enjoy your visit to the ten-time defending champion of the US’s top small city. “It’s like Minority Report for surgery,” says Daniel Leff, a senior researcher and consultant breast surgeon at Imperial College healthcare NHS Trust, who's working with a research time to measure--and respond to--"telltale signs of cognitive overload [for surgeons] based on brain activity. In future, they say, this could help flag warning signs during surgery." (Link to article in the comments.) The goals include training and, of course, intervention. A righteous cause, certainly, since the OR often a stressful place. (And even more so in trauma and in emergency depts.) But . . . is addition by subtraction possible? Is it possible to add to the cognitive reserves of surgeons by removing select sources of interruption, distraction, and stress? See, for starters, a new report in Scientific American, "Making Alarms More Musical Can Save Lives." (Link below.) Surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare workers: what technologies in your workflow cause the most disruptions? Have staff tried to solve these problems? What were the results? We certainly need our healthcare facilities to resist the hey-look-a-squirrel logic that rules the attention economy.
