E-Sports has arrived in Kyrene School District, and our students (and staff!) could not be more thrilled! 🎮 The district-wide program just wrapped up its first year, and brought together 6-8 grade students from across Kyrene to participate in some friendly, virtual competition. E-Sports is about more than just gaming; it's a gateway to careers in software development, engineering, graphic design, and more. By participating in our E-Sports program, students will gain valuable experience in problem-solving, strategic thinking, and collaboration—skills that are essential for success in the 21st century. Our very last Kyrene Values spotlight of the 2023-24 school year is on Greta Merrick, a 2nd grade teacher at Kyrene del Milenio. Greta was nominated by one of her colleagues for the Kyrene Key Value Compassion. Below is a snippet from Greta's nomination: "She is creative, kind, thoughtful, and brave. Being a leader in schools means being able to take chances and speak up for your kids. Her love for her kids pours out of her, and it is evident in how she speaks about every one of them. Stephanie was nominated by one of her colleagues for the Kyrene Key Value Compassion. Our next Kyrene Values spotlight today is on Amanda Wirichaga, an Instructional Assistant at Kyrene del Norte Dual Language Academy. Our next Kyrene Values spotlight of the day is on Brian Gibson, Principal at Kyrene de la Sierra. Brian was nominated by one of his colleagues for the Kyrene Key Value Collaboration. Below is a snippet from Brian's nomination: "This is my second year working with Brian and I have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand Brian's exceptional dedication to fostering compassion and collaboration among students, staff, parents, and the broader community. Brian has a leadership style that is inclusive and collaborative. Kyrene School District recognizes substitutes as integral to the District, and this year has launched a program to recognize some of these exceptional individuals. Today, we celebrated Vanessa Selby for receiving the "Substitute of the Semester" award! One of Vanessa's nominators shared "Her presence in our classroom has been an incredible example of leadership and grace." Fun fact: in the second semester, Vanessa will have worked 87 out of 90 school days!
