  • Various members of the community recently came together to host a reburial ceremony for ancestral remains, thought to date back to the 1600s, which had recently become unearthed due to shifts in the land. The remains were peacefully laid to rest above the beach on a fern-covered hill, with members of the Larsen Bay community, VPSO Dale Boring, Kodiak Island Borough Mayor Scott Arndt, Rev. Stephen Wood, and representatives from KANA Environmental and Communications present. The ceremony demonstrated how important it is to document historical moments such as these to share with future generations. Quyanaasinaq – our greatest thanks to the community of Larsen Bay for hosting us. The day fostered meaningful connections among all participants and we were honored to be a small piece of a profound moment in time. To read more, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gd23Rt9H

  • 🌟 Celebrating Our Compassionate CNAs: Susmitha Sumera and Theresa Fernando! 🌟 As we mark Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) Week, we want to shine a spotlight on two of our incredible team members here at Kodiak Area Native Association: Susmitha Sumera and Theresa Fernando. The role of a CNA is one of the most vital in the healthcare field. CNAs are the heart and soul of patient care, providing essential support with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They monitor vital signs, assist with medical procedures, and ensure that our patients feel comfortable and cared for. Beyond these tasks, CNAs offer companionship and emotional support, forming genuine connections with those they care for. We are incredibly grateful for Susmitha and Theresa, whose hard work and dedication help make Kodiak Area Native Association a place of quality care and concern. Their contributions have a profound impact on our community, and we are honored to celebrate them during CNA Week. #CNAWeek #kana_kodiak

  • Today, local agencies, Arctic Care military personnel, and Providence ER participated in a dynamic simulated mass casualty event at the Municipal Airport as the culmination of Distinguished Visitor's Day. The scenario centered around a plane crash, providing our first responder teams with an invaluable opportunity to apply their skills in a realistic setting. This exercise followed a week of intensive classroom training and was designed to ensure our responders are prepared for any emergency, no matter how rare. Quyanaasinaq - our greatest thanks to our military partners and the Arctic Care team for their support, training, and coordination in setting up this crucial event. Your efforts have equipped our community with the necessary skills and knowledge to respond effectively if disaster strikes. It's essential for our rural communities to be ready for all types of emergencies, and today's event brought together all the pieces to make that possible. #irtwins Kodiak Arctic Care 2024
