  • Key West International Airport officials marked a major milestone in the ongoing Concourse A project Wednesday, June 5, hosting a topping off ceremony alongside project managers, consultants, and Monroe County Commissioners in what will be Concourse A come 2025. Following steel and roof completion (the cause for Wednesday's event), will be installation of the terminal’s glass curtainwall, anticipated to be complete by September of this year. The 48,802-square-foot concrete structure boasts eight glass jet bridges, new concessions, expanded TSA lines, state-of-the-art baggage carousels, airline offices and more. In addition, the new concourse will remain above storm surge and flood elevation and is designed to withstand 200 mph winds. “Years of planning have culminated in this moment, and this milestone wouldn't be possible without the dedication of countless individuals,” said Richard Strickland, Executive Director of Airports, thanking design teams from McFarland Johnson and Mead & Hunt along with local contractors, construction workers, and consultants. “We are building on a legacy.” “This is an economic generator keeping our economy going,” said Monroe County Mayor Holly Raschein. “It is a big deal for the City of Key West, for Monroe County, and for all of those here today. This is a masterpiece and it is all coming together.” Robert Spottswood Sr., Executive Chairman of Spottswood Companies Inc., spoke of the work performed by NV2A Gulf Keystar, a joint venture, and touted the 280 jobs created by the project. “There were many challenges, but congratulations to everyone involved in this project,” he said. “I’d like to thank the airport’s design and consulting teams as well.” Overall project completion is set for Spring 2026.

  • Signature Aviation unveiled its newly built facility at Key West International Airport March 12 with a private ribbon-cutting ceremony. The 4,500-square-foot facility provides more than three times the space of Signature’s previous facility at EYW, delivering extra accommodations for expanded demand. An elevated main terminal alongside a second-story patio provides guests an opportunity to enjoy the scenic views of Key West. A pilot’s lounge and extra spaces for business or entertaining accompany a café and rooms for pilots' rest and relaxation. Signature officials tout the new facility as delivering a mix of modern design and enriched amenities in one of Florida’s most popular travel destinations. The goal was to create an environment that embodies Signature’s innovative approach to creating precise, safe, and exceptional experiences. “The timeless appeal of Key West starts the moment that a passenger steps off the plane, and Signature is delighted to be a part of that experience,” expressed Tony Lefebvre, Chief Executive Officer of Signature Aviation. “The new design, amenities, and expanded space create the perfect environment for our team members to deliver a warm and inviting experience for every guest that captures the spirit of this vibrant community." Signature’s peak times of the year in Key West include the Race World Offshore World Championship boat races in October and the New Year’s holiday. At these times, about 125 private planes park overnight, accompanied by traffic from arrivals, drop offs and pickups by other aircraft. “We appreciate the talent and reach Signature brings to our partnership as we continue to develop this airport and make it better for the flying public,” said Richard Strickland, Executive Director of Airports. In addition to its customers, Signature pumps about a million gallons of fuel per month to the airlines at EYW. It has also added two new 18,000-gallon fuel tanks for extra storage and fueling in the event of a hurricane. Signature Aviation locations are home to essential support services for business and private aviation, including refueling, hangarage, maintenance, repair and overhaul, and a variety of other amenities. Signature has called Key West home since 2016 when it acquired Landmark Aviation. Signature is the world's largest network of Fixed Base Operations (FBOs) and serves 27 countries at more than 200 locations across five continents. It is headquartered in Orlando, Florida. #aviation #aviationnews #signatureaviation #keywestinternationalairport #eyw #keywest #floridakeys
