BPU is currently in year 4 of our 10-year pole inspection program. So far, we have inspected almost 19,000 of the nearly 58,000 wooden poles in our system, and we have replaced close to 1,300 poles! Programs like this help to improve system reliability and public safety throughout our community. #PublicPower #Utilities

We would like to once again congratulate our General Manager, Bill Johnson for being nominated for Executive of the Year at the Waymaker Awards! It is amazing have a leader who is dedicated to serving the community.
Bill Johnson, General Manager at the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU), is nominated for Executive of the Year at The Waymaker™ Awards! "I believe in giving. I believe in sharing. I believe in also making sure that others are afforded the opportunity to be able to be as successful as I've been. There are people that are less fortunate and people that are in need of United Way support. If I can continue to reach out to the younger generation and continue to increase and support the amount of giving we do, that would be a legacy I'm proud of." We will announce our winners at the award ceremony on Thursday, July 11. Join us and raise a toast to those making a difference in Kansas City! buff.ly/3Vct2zU

Earlier this week, the BPU Water Division hosted an Emergency Preparedness Tabletop exercise where employees from across the utility were able to simulate emergency scenarios. The exercise was a great time for our team to proactively review, discuss and practice our roles to better prepare us for real life emergency situations. #Utilities

Last week, members of our water department were in Armourdale working out in the heat to fix a leak on a 30" main. It is incredible to see all of the collaboration with our crews to safely work on such an extensive project. Thank you to our crews for all of the hard work they put into keeping our community connected to safe, quality water! #Utilities

Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) reposted this
On May 19, 2024, KMU organized Mutual Aid efforts after storms made their way across the state. The storms brought heavy rains and sustained hurricane-force winds. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center reported 18 total tornados. Several KMU electric member communities were impacted and requested mutual aid to restore their service to their citizens. The Kansas Municipal Mutual Aid Program (KSMAP) was implemented to provide recovery support to the requesting utilities of Russell, Haven, and Kansas City BPU, as they each sustained system damage from the storm. Lineworkers and equipment from Garnett, Girard, McPherson BPU, Clay Center PUC, Pratt, Chanute, and KMEA\Osage City responded to assist their neighbors in need. On behalf of the storm-damaged communities and KMU, thank you to the crews from Garden City, Pratt, Ellinwood, Hoisington, McPherson BPU, Ottawa, Hillsboro, Kingman, and Winfield for responding to help their neighbor utilities in a time of need. #MutualAid #CommunitySupport #StormRelief #NeighborsHelpingNeighbors #DisasterResponse #StormRecovery #KansasStorms #KSMAP #KMU
