About us
The mission of the Kane County Regional Office of Education is to advocate for education, provide leadership, perform regulatory functions, and coordinate state and local services for educators, school districts, and the community. Alternative Program: Part of our Alternative Program division is our Youth Outreach Workers; counselors that assist schools and students with truancy prevention. The Kane County ROE also offers the Equal Chance Program which advocates for homeless student education. This program is administered by the Area One Lead Program and funded by a grant from the Illinois State Board of Education through the McKinney–Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 2001. Our alternative programs department assists with at-risk youth and their families facing atypical circumstances within the school system, whether it be homelessness, truancy, expulsion, or delinquency. As stated by the Illinois State Board of Education, regional offices of education are also responsible for investigating noncompliance within private, homeschool arrangements. Partnerships & Communication: Our biggest annual celebration is our Educator Of The Year Awards Ceremony in which we honor teachers, administrators and support staff. To learn more about our involvement and events with external organizations and our school districts, please subscribe to our semimonthly newsletter and visit us on our social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. Testing Center: Tests that can be taken at the ROE include the GED, Constitution Test, Paraprofessional Test, and more. Transcripts from testing can be provided upon request.

As we are knee deep into summer, we are all undoubtedly spending more time outside. However, children may also be spending more time on their devices. Online safety is a top priority for the Kane County ROE, and we are diving into the Meta Family Center in the return of our bi-weekly Tuesday Tech Tip! Phil Morris, our Director of Operations and Technology, shares options available to families through this Meta resource and how it can help build toward a safer, more structured experience for teenagers on Facebook and Instagram. #k12 #education #schools

Today marked the first of three days of reunification training sessions that will be hosted by the Kane County ROE this month. Originally designed by the I Love U Guys Foundation, this training covers the logistics and responsibilities of school districts when having to reunify families with students following a crisis situation. Thank you to the district and emergency response staff from around the area who joined us for these simulations and being part of a countywide, collaborative effort to build a safer, more prepared Kane County.

Homeless children face numerous obstacles in receiving an education, but are entitled to it all the same. Jimmy Pawola of the Kane County ROE Equal Chance Program led discussions and presentations with district administrators today regarding their responsibilities under the McKinney-Vento Act, how school district staff can identify and assist homeless students, and what resources and systems are in place to help them do so.

It was a successful day of collaboration, reunions, idea sharing, and reflecting on the school year at the 2024 Tech Bash. It was wonderful to see district technology staff and tech enthusiasts at all stages of their careers interact and gain some valuable tools for keeping students and staff safe in the digital world. Topics of the day included cybersecurity, digital citizenship, device management, AI, and others. We hope these conversations benefit your work heading into next school year!
