    Truth bombing to start the week. 💣 🛑 If you allow yourself to be used by your employer, you will be used. You will be lured to stay put by the paycheck they drop in your account and by the comfort of the job you know versus the uncertainty of something new. 🗣 You might even be courted by your boss, who will tell you how much you're valued and profess interest in helping you succeed. 🤔 You staying put is good for your boss, but is it good for you? It's vital to pay attention to what's happening. The signals are there, and recognizing them keeps you informed, aware, and in control of your career. Yes, you might be the next rising star, but you also might be useful in staying put. How do you know the difference? 🔎 Here are a few clues: ❓ Have you received the promotions you've earned and deserved? ❓ Do you receive annual raises that matter, or are you given small increases that come with apologies, excuses, and "if I could have, I would have" stories? ❓ Does your boss help promote your career, internally or externally? ❓ Does your boss ask you to take on more responsibilities without additional compensation "because it will benefit your career"? ❓ Are there any career advancement opportunities in your current role? 😡 OK, you've asked the questions and realized you might be being used; what do you do? You start looking for something new. How do you safely do that so your boss doesn't find out (because that can have adverse consequences)? We have the answer: post a profile on Jolo, where profiles are anonymous, and you can choose to hide your profile from your current employer.     Here are some things we've seen and heard about in online applications that contribute to the mess that is online job search today: 👩🏫 GPA -- Except for entry-level roles, who the f*ck remembers, and why do you care? 🎓 Graduation dates -- Do you need the dates, or is this an easy and backhanded way for you and "your systems" to discriminate against older workers? Pass. 🗣️List your references -- What? Yeah, no. Let's talk first. If all goes well, we can discuss references. Until then, bugger off. 📋 State why you left your prior job(s) -- Really? We just met. At least buy me coffee first. Maybe we should have a conversation and then we can get personal. Expect BS answers to this BS question in your automated forms. 📽 Record an interview, send it to us, and someone will review it. Is this a joke? Am I on candid camera? No thanks.
