Here are some shocking stats on "back to office" policies... TLDR - it can be incredibly harmful to your company's ability to recruit, engage, and retain top talent... ⤵ Here are a few stats ⤵ 👉 About 42% of companies with #returntooffice mandates suffered more employee attrition. 👉 Almost a third (29%) of companies enforcing office returns are struggling the most with recruitment. 👉 76% of employees stand ready to jump ship if their companies decide to pull the plug on flexible work schedules. 👉 Employees from historically underrepresented groups are 22% more likely to consider other options if flexibility comes to an end. 👉 80% of bosses regret their initial return to office decisions and say they would have approached their plans differently. 👉 21% of those requiring workers to return said they lost “key” members of staff. 👉 54% of hybrid or remote workers would consider finding a new job if their employers demanded full-time return to the office. 👉 Only about 3% of employees want to return to the office five days a week. Don't be one of these companies. Go remote or hybrid, and plan regular team retreats instead when you need to reconnect your team in-person. We can help at offsite. com

Planning engaging, high-ROI team retreats without breaking the bank is critical for remote and hybrid companies. It's a great way to maintain high employee engagement, retention, and alignment. Plus, it’s cool to get some face time with co-workers 1-2x per year. Jared Kleinert, Founder and CEO at Offsite, shared some tips for remote or hybrid orgs looking to create a successful team retreat. I'm the CEO of a fully remote company. And yet...I'm getting on a plane in a couple days to fly 7 hrs to meet a new employee overseas (and then flying back home, another 7 hrs later in the week). Why? Meeting people in-person matters. Getting on a plane to spend time with someone says "I care about you." When you do this for prospects, you have a better chance of earning their business. When you do this for conferences, you have a better chance of meeting like-minded people who want to work with you, buy from you, and otherwise do business with you. When you do this for a new employee, you have a better chance of keeping them engaged and retained for many years. And when you run a business, your people are *everything* Not to mention, this new hire has joined our leadership team, so the impact is even greater. I could ask them to fly to me, sure... But think about the message it sends when I'm willing to leave home, get on a plane, fly to a different country, all to meet with and celebrate someone. (And think about the message it sends when we plan team retreats a few times each year, using offsite. com, and fly everyone from our company to a shared location for a few days...) The message is clear. "I care about you." - - - Do me a favor and repost this if you think more leaders should get on planes to meet their people IRL. Then, follow me (Jared Kleinert) for daily posts on remote work. Finally, check out offsite. com if your company plans team retreats. We can save you time, money, and stress when you plan offsites.

5 WAYS TO HIRE BETTER ON REMOTE-FIRST TEAMS 1) Add the salary range in job descriptions. This is a good practice in general, but also shows you are allocating a certain amount based on experience level, but regardless of where candidates live who apply for that role. 2) Be upfront if the job is fully remote, hybrid, remote but you must be in certain countries or time zones, “remote” but actually preferred to be in-person, etc… Explain any travel requirements for Offsites, and other travel or IRL requirements. 3) Add screening questions. Is there must-have experience for something, like knowledge of a tech stack or experience with marketing a certain type of offer? Ask about it when receiving resumes. Put your screening question/requirement in the job description as a call to action. 4) Source from multiple places. It is so hard to know where your top talent will come from. So, search everywhere. Post open roles on LinkedIn in your feed, post on multiple job boards, ask for referrals, poach from other companies…do it all at once. 5) Onboard well. Try to meet your top candidates (if possible) or new hires IRL as early as you can. Have them meet other team members for zoom. Welcome and celebrate them in Slack. Give them documented SOPs and trainings. Make them part of your team with intention, immediately, so they feel just as excited as if they joined an office-first team. - - - This stuff isn’t rocket science. But it makes a world of difference in the quality of talent you can attract (and keep!) when running a remote-first or hybrid team. I know I’m missing a lot, so comment below with other pro-tips. And repost if you found this insightful!

Remote work can save companies a LOT of money. For example, Sun Microsystems saves ~$70M/year in real estate costs. They're not alone. Nearly 60% of companies tout cost-savings as a major reason to go remote-first. According to Global Workplace Analytics, if all remote-compatible jobs were done remotely even half the time, companies would save $700B per year. That's $11,000 per employee, per year in savings. Remote work saves companies on: - rent - utilities - cleaning - security - meals/catering - equipment - payroll (no receptionists or office manager, plus hire from anywhere) - taxes (possibly, on sales tax and location of workforce) Even if companies reinvest in regular team retreats (offsite. com is free to use, and will save you 20%+ on room blocks, meeting space, etc when you plan your next #offsite, #teamretreat, or #conference)... Remote-first companies save a lot of money. - - - Is your company remote, hybrid, or office-first? Let me know in the comments below (and why you choose to organize the way you do). Want more people to consider going remote-first or hybrid with their teams? Repost this! Finally, follow Jared Kleinert.
