One of the things we have learned from our collective experiences is that banding together is the way to get through challenging times and to build a more resilient and vibrant community. Please consider a generous gift in support of JSB so we can meet our budgetary goals this year and continue investing in the future of Twin Cities dance and far beyond. We are grateful for every donor who chooses to give an amount that is meaningful to them. https://lnkd.in/eNCKpUZM

JSB is honored to be featured in this gallery! Check it out, ideally on your way to a live show 😇
Discover art that moves you in the Dance on Hennepin Center Stage exhibit, now on display at The Hennepin! This exhibit features the extraordinary feat of moving the Shubert Theater in 1999, which, at the time, held the Guinness World Record for the largest building ever moved on rubber wheels. The exhibit also shines a spotlight on the MIXTAPE Collective and many musical theater posters of shows that have performed on our stages through the years. Visit our website to learn more and stop by The Hennepin before your scheduled performance of MJ the Musical to step into the shoes of Hennepin Avenue's greatest dancers! https://bit.ly/3ykrt9D #PublicArt #ArtHistory #FreeGallery #Dance

Not our favorite mention in Dance Magazine 🥺, but thank you for your coverage of this loss. Let it be merely a pause, and a moment for our community to come together and redefine a new future for the space and the initiatives. It will take champions, including artists AND funders.
The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts in downtown Minneapolis announced on January 31 that its 500-seat Goodale Theater would stop presenting dance on March 31—thus ending its planned season early—and subsequently close. Since opening in 2011, The Cowles Center has filled a major void in the Twin Cities’ arts scene by providing a theater designed for and dedicated to local dance, as well as office, rehearsal, and performance space for small and midsize arts organizations, including many of the area’s leading dance companies. JSB presents “Pointed Humor” April 13th (7:30pm) and April 14th (2pm) at The O’Shaughnessy at St. Catherine University. This remarkable evening includes two Sewell works: a new sextet that blends classical and contemporary ballet within Bach’s ‘Concerto for Violin & Oboe’; and a remount of ‘Doo-Be-Doo’, which combines high-energy playful antics with stunning technical feats. Here’s another entry in the larger conversation surrounding our Twin Cities dance community.
Haven’t been quite able to isolate this facet of my unease, until now (thank you Neal Cuthbert). Yeah, I’m a dance superfan, but the recent setbacks for the TC dance community also impact me (us) in my other areas of interest, community, and life. “But if you think, well, it's just dance, we've got plenty of other stuff going on, this is certainly is true. It won't remain true without attention and care. …It signals a failure of our community will and vision. It also signals something much bigger is lurking that is a threat to our broader cultural community, and that this is not just a dance thing, it's an everything thing.”

New venue, new dates! Join us at The O’Shaughnessy in April to experience moving works. We are still processing the impending closure of The Cowles Center, and encourage anyone who considers themself a part of the Twin Cities dance community to participate in the Town Hall Monday (3/4), 6:30pm, at the Woman’s Club.
