At J Lane, we do the heavy lifting — literally. For our client Cogent Communications, one of the world’s largest internet service providers, we had a very tall task in cleaning house at their existing HQ in downtown Jacksonville, on the 12th floor of the iconic 550 Water Street building. For a tech company of their scale and operations, that involved stripping the floor of all electrical and mechanical, as well as condensers on the rooftop and one massive generator. This project, which required large cranes and other demolition equipment, also had to keep the other office occupants in mind (i.e., minimizing noise, mess, and other disruptions). Luckily, our team specializes in projects just like this, and were thrilled to help Cogent vacate their existing premises seamlessly, while also preparing the space at 550 Water Street for its new occupant. At J. Lane, we appreciate art! We also appreciate amazing clients like Graham Riley of Stellers Gallery, who called on us to build his brand-new exhibition and studio space right here in Jacksonville. Designing and constructing an art gallery always requires a delicate balance of style and substance — you want to create a beautiful and functional space, while not taking anything away from the art itself (i.e., the focal point of every room). We achieved this through the construction of a multipurpose building accentuated by high ceilings, meticulously stained floors, and a sun-soaked storefront with floor-to-ceiling windows. Kevin Clark left the corporate world with a dream — to bring his favorite coffee (Biggby) to Jacksonville. For J. Lane, through our deep connection with the city, it was a project we were elated to work on for both the client and the community. And because we were converting an old Blockbuster Video, the nostalgia kicked in as soon as we walked into the space, with its signature blue carpet and walls.
