Today is International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) and we celebrate the women engineers of ITC who are crucial to our work to plan, design, build, maintain and operate the grid. THANK YOU for all you do! In honor of INWED, we caught up with Jennifer Amberg, Principal Project Manager, to learn more about her career at ITC and involvement in ITC’s Women in Engineering group! 👷♀️⚡TELL US ABOUT YOUR CAREER AT ITC: I am currently a Principal Project Manager where I manage various capital projects such as generator interconnections, load interconnections, station expansions, equipment replacements and new equipment installations. FUN FACT – I was one of the original employees who started at ITC when it was founded in 2003; in fact, I was the first Operations Engineer at ITC! 👷♀️⚡TELL US ABOUT YOUR INVOLVMENT IN THE WOMEN IN ENGINEERING GROUP AT ITC: I co-lead the group that first began in 2005 with ~8 women engineers. I am proud to say that number has grown to over 50! The group offers outreach opportunities to volunteer for STEM initiatives geared toward young girls and provides opportunities for leadership development.

It’s heating up! Did you know that transmission lines, which naturally generate heat due to electrical current passing through them, can sag and perform differently in extreme temps? That’s why companies like ITC prioritize vegetation management to prevent interference with the lines. Additionally, our dedicated operators continuously monitor load balancing, considering factors such as weather conditions and demand, to ensure power stays flowing. ⚡🌡️

In today’s evolving energy landscape, transmission is crucial for: ✅ Ensuring reliable access to energy ✅ Connecting to renewables and meeting clean energy goals ✅ Supporting the electrification of our economy That’s why we urgently need investment in our transmission system and policy that supports it across the board. FERC’s recent Order No. 1920 is a step in the right direction, but there’s more to be done to ensure that policy doesn’t become a threat to the greater grid. Read more 👉 https://ow.ly/kJ7f50Sji00
